Who else is into cars? What do you drive?

I've never minded what transmission I had. Mrs Spruce was apprehensive about automatic because she’d always driven manual but her stiff shoulder prompted a change - and that’s that.

Good luck with an EV. I might move to hybrid but the EV range issue and a lack of charging locations have deterred me.

I've said it before but I think I'm a good candidate. My commute is 50 miles round trip and I would either install a charger at home, or work...or both.
For longer, or more "fun" drives...I've got other cars for that.

I live in New York so my daily driver is the subway (when I take it nowadays; I work remotely now).

We have a garage in our building, too.

It's funny, everyone says New York is terrible for cars and sure, it is if you want to drive them daily. But it's freed me from having to deal with the inconveniences of driving a sports car every day like I used to while I lived in CA, and now I love cars again because my 911 is just a weekend toy 😀

Just gotta pay to play lol. When I lived in NYC, I worked in the marketing department for Zipcar.
It was great. I didn't have to own a car, or even pay to park/drive it. And there were a few in the garage just 2 blocks away.
I don't know what sort of fleet they have now but there was a new (at the time) Q5 and A4 (as well as a couple of others) pretty much always available. So that saved me a TON of money!
I even enjoyed driving through the city...most of the time lol. For some reason this memory has stuck with me...
I was coming home from downtown late and heading uptown on Park and had just navigated through Grand Central.
When I popped out, Park was WIDE open. Like, hardly a single Taxi. It was a beautiful evening. I had all the windows down and the sunroof open. I was blasting Coolie High by Camp Lo and I just fυcking floored it straight up Park and (mostly) stayed on it up till 70th ave or so lol. I don't even remember any red lights.
I was in that Q5 so it wasn't even that impressive, but it was/ is just an automotive experience I will probably never forget.

No way! Why would you?!
I love the E46, but the M3 I would need must have 4 doors...
E46 4 door does make a useful addition to a 911, this is my 328i auto press car, one of the first to be built in ‘98 and used by some car magazines when the new model was launched to the public, has about 380k on the clock now, still good. M52TU/M54 engines are like cockroaches as long as the cooling system still works.

It isn’t needed much as the 991 back seat is fairly big for 2 passengers but when a 5th seat is needed its great to have.

There is something that Queensland and Florida has in common:

It was briefly changed to “The Smart State” for a while but then changed back as many of us didn’t live up to that claim.

We are definitely the Florida of Australia though, and Trev’s city of the Gold Coast is sort of like our Miami

Former Freemason, 51, found drunk and naked inside a huge pipe organ with a toy gun and remote-controlled police car says he got lost while trying to hand out cheeseburgers to the homeless

When you see the bloke they caught in the pipe organ above, he even looks like the average “Florida Man” arrestee

I have had many, many such times on the West Side Highway 😁 Living in Queens now, I rarely need to drive that route. I should take the Turbo on a Saturday evening cruise this summer

Great cars on show but does everyone on OF own a two seater sports car?

Am I the only person here who drives a compact estate car with a crate in the back for my terrier and with a low rise tailgate for him to jump into?

Does anyone else have a family car - not an SUV or Ute or station wagon, with enough room for kids seats, a travel cot and a fold up pram, or is that the second car in the family (my wife and I share the use of the one we own)?
My 911 is a 4 seater...

at least it was up until I pulled the rear seat pads out to get a roll bar in.

I grew up riding in the back of a Datsun 240Z and 260Z. The ones that had no back seats -- just a shelf. And it wasn't just me, my two older sisters had to sit back there as well. Not that seat belts were a thing back then, but there was nothing to stop you from rolling around except the hatchback glass 😁

I had this one for a number of years, their were back seats but your knees would be around your ears if you tried sitting in the back.

Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo a fully optioned beast with 4WD, 4 Wheel Steer, LSD, Active aero front and rear, 4 wheel active suspension.
It was a real pleasure to drive but had the reputation of killing its owners as you were never fully aware of how fast you were going either in a straight line or round corners.
It really was magic to drive.

When I was a kid getting wedged into the back of a 2 seat coupe was considered normal.
We had a MGB with a fastback hard top

It had a roll bar and a racing harness fitted, so they also had to be contended with when riding in the back.
That hardtop made the body much more rigid, as a result the car always handled better than all the other MGBs.
The MGB was a maid of all work…. It competed in Races, rallies, motorkhanas, observed section trials the lot and then do daily driver duties during the week.
There was also a lovely Jaguar E Type series 2 bugger all room in the back of that too.
Eventually dad bought a Jaguar E type series 3 V12 2+2….. bloody luxury! (In reality still bloody cramped in the back seat, had to sit sorta sideways with my arse on the drivers side and my legs in the passenger side foot well)
But as a kid I never cared because they were cool cars!

I can’t find any pix of the E types and sorry about the quality of the MG pix but they are quite old and have deteriorated with age, not that the photographer was much chop and the film and camera technology used would’ve been all that flash either

A fiberglass hardtop made by J&S fiberglass, the boot lid was removed and it just fitted over the roadster body without any changes, a very clever piece of design and much more stylish than the GT.
Somtimes we would remove the hardtop and throw on the standard boot lid (trunk lid to our friends in the Americas)
If some open air motoring was to be enjoyed.
I found some better pix of the J&S GTB hardtop on the net

My earliest automotive memories are of me and my sister sitting "in the back" of my dad's Austin Healey "frog eye" Sprite.

There was another family holiday to Wales, with another couple, where 4 adults, 2 kids and all our luggage went in a Morris Minor!

Different world back then...!

Ha that`s nothing! When I was a kid I got rolled up and squeezed into the compartment behind the back seat of a beetle.

I don't have measurements to compare but the Sprite is not renowned for being a big car or a 4 seater... 😁

Stepping back in time 🙁

In my younger days I owned a Morgan with the Coventry Climax side valve engine, happy days and a great learning curve on vehicle maintenance.
Replaced it with a Honda S800, a little rocket 😀

Sadly they are both long gone and no images to show,

Borrowed this image of a similar Honda on line, mine was white 😀

Lovely, shame no photos. My dad has a Morgan 4/4, it's his pride and joy. Off white, red leather, small bumpers... Does look good.

I've spent the last few days watching videos about old English sports cars - mostly the Triumph TR series.

I really love the TR3A as it featured in a Fellini film I love "La Dolce Vita"

This led me down a path, and I also found the Jaguar XK140 - beautiful little car but then I made this horrendous discovery:

David "chav" Beckham, has gifted one to his son for his wedding... but ripped the engine out and replaced it with batteries and an electric motor!!

What an absolute travesty.

That is what you’d expect from that dickhead!

I actually quite like Beckham and don’t think he’s a ‘dickhead’.
He was a brilliant player, captain and sportsman. Since retiring he’s put quite a lot back into sports generally.
He also tries to do the right thing by others, and the environment.
I’m confident that the post was made without thinking.
