Have you shared a photo of the Turbo?

Here are a couple of shots of the Turbo. Top one taken last autumn. Bottom one during a wet Lime Rock track day with my sons in July of 2013. Four of us sharing the three cars. The Evo and the Turbo were/are well planted in wet conditions with their AWD. The ‘73 E/RSR is shown prior to its repaint. It required a bit more care.

What were your top 3 and why?
Top three most engaging cars, all very different from each other.
‘73 911 E/RSR. Pure, analog air cooled Porsche driving experience. Despite the wide tires, its unboosted steering is very light and direct. The 2.8 liter short stroke motor loves to rev. I chip it to 7300 but have spun it up to 8k, where it still pulls, with the DC 80 cams in it. And despite that cammy, revvy nature of the motor, the Mechanical Fuel Injection makes it very livable at low revs just bopping around town. It’s pure magic to be honest. The fuel mileage isn’t much to write home about, though, But I really couldn’t care less. She has a wonderful exhaust note combined with an intake resonance on up in the rev range that fills the cockpit and makes it very engaging. On trailing throttle, it has a classic rasp attributable to the MFI and the muffler. It sounds angry, but in truth it is very driveable. My sons love it.

‘73 BMW 3.0 CS hotrod. Built as a track car, with the bigger bore, shorter stroke 3.5 L M90 variant of the M30 six. Very streetable, but will rip on up to its power peak at 6250. Its 300 degree cam allows an idle of just over 1000 revs, and still gives a strong vacuum signal to the Weber DCOE’s for easy in town driving. Getting those dialed in was a fun challenge and I learned a lot from that. Compression is high at just under 13:1 which demands 110 race gas. . Cage has stiffened the chassis a great deal over stock, and I built it with coil-overs at all 4 corners. A bit stiff for the street, but not a kidney wrecker. Nimble driving feel with unboosted steering, and manual brakes with a balance bar and upgraded rotors and calipers. 2596 pounds empty weight being pushed by 298 HP and 280 pounds feet of TQ. Close ratio dogleg gearbox (Getrag 265/5) and a 3.07 LSD are really well matched to the motor and its output. She’s a bit rough around the edges in some cosmetic terms, but I think that’s also part of the charm. My sons love it

‘72 Plymouth ‘Cuda. It’s an old school straight line street brawler. Huge, stoinking power and torque from a stroker 440 bumped out to 496CI. Big lopey cam with lots of overlap hits its 600 pounds feet torque peak at 3500, then runs up to 600HP at 6200. However, Off idle to 2200 revs she has a flat spot where the motor can’t breathe particularly well.., but then the party quickly get started going from 2300 to 3500. Standing behind it at idle, the exhaust note has a bit of a syncopated basso profundo thing going on. Sounds incredible. Triple black, 4.11 gears and a Pistol grip 4 speed make the Mopar experience pretty sweet. Very easy to act like a juvenile delinquent in this one. My sons love this one too.

Nice one! I ask because I am quite familiar with how planted the 997 Turbo is in the wet 😉

For track use, does yours have the 220 rear diff?

Great cars on show but does everyone on OF own a two seater sports car?

Am I the only person here who drives a compact estate car with a crate in the back for my terrier and with a low rise tailgate for him to jump into?

Does anyone else have a family car - not an SUV or Ute or station wagon, with enough room for kids seats, a travel cot and a fold up pram, or is that the second car in the family (my wife and I share the use of the one we own)?

Still, I’m enjoying the green eyed feeling of vehicle envy 😉

Yes, they do inspire confidence!

Mine has the locking rear diff option. I presume that is the 220?

I do want a wagon when I replace my GTI. Or at the very least, a 4-door.

No the closest thing I have to a sensible family car is my Jaguar XJ6, and no one has ridden in the back seat in the time I’ve had it.
I’m a single bloke who has no ghastly, horrible little snot gobblers to pollute the back seat! Everything else is a 2 seater!
Life is too short to drive a boring shitbox!

Yup 👍

My GF has a Rav4. It is a sadness-mobile whenever conditions dictate we have to take it places instead of the 911.

I am nowhere near being able to, but I dream of getting us an RS6 as our 'sensible practical' car (though you would be surprised at how much luggage / cargo a 911 can handle)

I'm hoping the RS6 wagon will be in my price range in the next couple of years.
As much as I love cars, I find it difficult to justify spending all of that money on a daily I'm just going to slowly destroy with my commute.
But hey, you only live once and life is too short to drive boring cars.
I've been wanting a facelifted W212 AMG but now I'm a little worried about that 5.5l V8. My inlaws just ditched their AMG G-Wagon because of low compression.
Other than that though I'd like an RS5 Sportback, M3, or just another Golf. But in R trim lol.

A very interesting e46M3 might be coming up for sale soon...

No way! Why would you?!
I love the E46, but the M3 I would need must have 4 doors...

I've always liked the look of Audis, and the RS series are what I would go for but, living in London, we use the tube more than we drive and, in any event, smaller cars are easier to park in crowded streets (and we have no off-street parking).

So, as I posted earlier, we have a Golf Estate although I’ll probably be drummed out of OF for admitting it’s an automatic. Truth be told, I bargained my insurance down by limiting my annual mileage to 6,000 - and I’m pushed to achieve that 🙁

I'm wrestling with the idea of ditching the manual transmission on the next vehicle.
My hand may be forced if I end up with the Audi or the Benz, as they don't even have a manual offering.
If I wanted to stay stick, I'd have to go with the M3 or the Golf R. But even after 2025 I think the Golf will no longer have the manual option.
I've also seriously been considering the EV option as well.

I've never minded what transmission I had. Mrs Spruce was apprehensive about automatic because she’d always driven manual but her stiff shoulder prompted a change - and that’s that.

Good luck with an EV. I might move to hybrid but the EV range issue and a lack of charging locations have deterred me.

You're not alone. I have a CLS Shooting Brake so I can transport the family and the golden retriever in the back. No 2 seater sports car for me once I had kids. I hate SUVs, but I understand the appeal. I think estate cars are a much better solution personally.

I live in New York so my daily driver is the subway (when I take it nowadays; I work remotely now).

We have a garage in our building, too.

It's funny, everyone says New York is terrible for cars and sure, it is if you want to drive them daily. But it's freed me from having to deal with the inconveniences of driving a sports car every day like I used to while I lived in CA, and now I love cars again because my 911 is just a weekend toy 😀
