People have different definitions of a Bond girl. Using DC's movies as examples
1. Any woman that assists Bond in the movie (so includes M and Moneypenny)
2. Any woman that has a minor role and he eventually sleeps with (Monica, Gemma, Berenice)
3. Any woman that is important to the story (Olga, Eva, Lea)

I tend to fall in #3 as to what a Bond girl is.

Check out this oddball entry, in the category of “bare with me” - this is Monica "Nikki" van der Zyl, a “German voice-over actress who dubbed the voices of several ‘Bond girls’ for 15 years. In fact, she owns the distinction of being involved in more Bond films than any other actress, save for Lois Maxwell, who played Miss Moneypenny.”

I randomly came across this article,l: The woman with the golden voice of the Bond films

Turns out many of our favorite between ‘62 and ‘79!Bond girls had the vocal cords of a spayed cat, and the accent of Colonel Klink...

To wit:

• In “Dr. No” (1962), she dubbed the voices of Andress, Eunice Gayson and every female actress except Maxwell and a Chinese girl.

• In “From Russia with Love” (1963), van der Zyl dubbed Gayson again.

• In “Goldfinger” (1964), she dubbed Shirley Eaton and also served as the on-set dialogue coach for German actor Gerte Frobe, who played the film’s title character. Frobe’s voice would eventually get dubbed, too.

• In “Thunderball” (1965), van der Zyl dubbed Claudine Auger.

• In “You Only Live Twice” (1967), she dubbed Mie Hama.

• In “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” (1969), she dubbed Virginia North.

• In “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971), she dubbed Denise Perrier, among others.

• In “Live and Let Die” (1973), she partially dubbed Jane Seymour.

• In “Man with the Golden Gun” (1974), she dubbed Francoise Therry.

• And in “Moonraker” (1979), she partially dubbed Corinne Clery.

The article is worth a read to Bond film fans, as it goes into some depth on why van der Zyl never received film credits for her work, her later life, etc.

(And how about that watch she’s wearing?)

Yes! She is awesome and I agree with you that the movie wasn’t the greatest. Weakest Craig Bond flick IMO!

RIP Tanya Roberts. Bond Girl in “A View to Kill”.

Way too young to go. She was great in The Beastmaster!

Great find. I knew about Ursula Andress but not the others and this explains the mysterious accent of many of the Bond girls back then.

I guess this proves You Only Live Twice. Or it was No Time to Die and she’ll Die Another Day. ::rimshot::

Her death announcement is still online! I guess you can’t even believe obituaries anymore. Sorry if I bummed anybody out. Okay, that’s it, guys - no more death notices from me...

Don’t worry; we’ve clearly all been dragged into a reality vortex caused only by her husband’s astonishingly strong desire for her to pass

It would be more sporting of you to not post the comment of the year not even a week into January

Thanks!

With all the highly intelligent and quick-witted people on this forum, the bar for pithy, clever, humorous posts is set very high. I just occasionally chime in as an attempt to keep up with you folks.

So is did she really die this time?

Apparently so:

“her partner, Lance O'Brien, told her manager that he had visited her in the hospital and "said goodbye"; O'Brien said he did not mean to imply that she had died, but she was critically ill from a urinary tract infection that entered her organs and bloodstream. After the premature reports, O'Brien was informed by the hospital that she died in the evening of January 4, and confirmed this to the media on January 5.”

But we should wait until tomorrow before getting too certain...
