For some fun speculation, what watch do you think will be the one to go to mars?

The x33 I believe was originally dubbed “mars watch”. Which I’m guessing meant to be used while inside a base?

on the Martian surface will it be a 3861?

I doubt that NASA will ever certify another mechanical movement to be space qualified. I'm also wondering if the certified 1861 would pass the tests nowadays? I would guess that the current requirements and testing procedure are more demanding.

I’ve always liked the Omega From Moon to Mars. It’ll definitely be the one to have on your wrist when that lander with people on board is hurtling towards the surface of the Red Planet sometime in 20...? Mind you, I don’t own one and might well be discontinued myself by then anyway!:D

Because in an emergency the astronauts might have to agree to Apple’s terms and then download a new software version first. :)

...the one to go to mars? More like two, preferably without batteries or electronics and dissimilar materials, construction and design to avoid common-mode failures. So this one for timing the short stuff:-

and this one for timing the long stuff (9 months out, 3 months there, 9 months back)

Well if you’re going to hop from globe to globe , you had better have a Globemaster at hand.
