I already own a lovely vintage GP and I would like to pair it with a more modern GP for display
I have found a couple that are in my price range ( less than $2,300 ) and would appreciate any opinions from the community about these two watches.
Thanks.

They're both quite ugly?

Are you serious or kidding? I honestly can't tell
I ask partly because the watch you posted, which I like by the way - is it really all that different from the GP7000 I posted a pic of?
If I am missing something, please share, I am eager to learn
Thanks.

GP 30 Anni in Fiat suggested by @tyrantlizardrex has a different subdial layout than GP7000 and no date so it has a more "tried and true" appeal.

I am not kidding.

To my eye, both of the watches you posted are ugly. I would not pay money for them. I would not wear them. They are not for me.

The watch I posted has a different case style, different style pushers, different movement, different dial layout, different dial furniture, no bezel, the tachograph scale on the dial.... and on and on... it is a totally different watch.

So that's what you're missing.

But it's your money.

Buy what you like.

As to whether the watches you posted are "good" examples of those particular models, you'll need to do some research.

I have learned the value of posting here before leaping

That IS an nice watch, you're right. But a bit of misinformation in the posting you linked: The movement is not an ETA 2892 but the inhouse GP3100. With the DD module they call it 3170 (cal. 3370 with date).

Might be worth adding a third one to your option list

This may be a bit gushing but is quite informative:
https://www.watchprosite.com/girard...age-1996-chronograph-4930/6.1228331.10097751/
VC used the GP3100 base movement in their Overseas line.

You might also be interested in this essay on the 7000 series. Those have mostly ETA based movements.

It's time for me to ask this question, as I have seen the term many, many times..... what does ETA stand for?

G-P has been up and down, all over the place over the years. They were never bad watches, but for some years they were pretty pedestrian. This is one brand you really have to do your research on. It's a quirky brand.

I don't mind quirky, but would prefer not to end up with a pedestrian watch for $2,500.
I have been trying to figure out how to find one that looks great and runs on a well regarded movement.
Is there a time period I should stick to in an attempt to avoid some of the more pedestrian examples?

Hey .. you are asking uninformed questions. You are flailing and asking OF to do your thinking for you. You are concerned about the financial outlay. This tells me you need to do your homework. My advice is to slow down think hard about your budget and do some research. You will be happier in the end.
