I think the 2531.80 is my top pick, followed closely by a 3570.50. I'm a big fan of the affordable servicing for a 2531.80 and availability of parts.

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with an omega. Enjoy and wear in good health whichever one you choose. 馃憤
Wait, did I say 'one'? Nah, there'll be more. Many, many more... 馃槈

Chronograph - early 3572 with tritium dial. Last of the tritium-dialed Speedys with exhibition back, come with the superior 1498/1499 bracelet, still keep acrylic crystal. Solid combination of Speedy heritage / rarity / desirable patina / modern details.

Everyday versatile piece - Aqua Terra 8500 non-MC. Still has the superior 8500 movement, just without all the anti-magnetic bits. Case/crystal/bezel design and 13mm actual thickness can easily fit below a shirt cuff. Roughly 30% below their MC counterparts. 150m water resistance, screw down crown.

Sport watch - 2254. Rock solid movement, fantastic design and proportions, killer lume.

Vintage - Seamaster 321 chronograph. Legendary movement, classic case designs, can regularly be found for 1/2 to 1/3 or their Speedmaster brethren.

the superior 1498/1499 bracelet

Why would you call this bracelet "superior"? Because it's 20/16 instead of 20/18 of the 1998 bracelet?

As soon as the 1998 bracelet was available, I replace the 1499 on my Speedmaster....

Vintage-wise, anything Speedie Mark... cool looks of the 70's especially the racing MkII or some blue-ish MkIII's, iconic 861 or 1040/1041 beating inside, speedmaster equity, reasonable prices. Agree that a lot of them have been beat up, but there are a few very nice ones out there (including mine 馃榿)

A nice Peter Blake 2254.50 for me
This would have been an incredible no-brainer for me as well, but prices are rising!

I just sourced one for my friend's wife. She gave it to him for Christmas.
He has quite a few "nice" watches, but wears this one every day 馃榾

I find it superior for the following reasons:
-20/16, as you mentioned. Bracelet taper creates a more elegant look.
-18mm wide clasp vs 20mm. On my wrist the size and shape of the 20mm is noticeable and uncomfortable, while the 18mm melts.
-Smaller individual removable links. Easier to get perfect fit than the large links of the 1998
-Much lighter, and keeps the watch better secured in one position
-Solid all-around feel, much like the 1998 and better than earlier stamped bracelets (1171, 1450, 1479, etc).

The only real benefit of the 1998 is the push button clasp, but even that's specious - the spring mechanism for the buttons frequently gets out of true and needs adjustment, or at least the various ones that I've had. While the 1498 is a friction clasp I've never had a problem with it disengaging accidentally.

I hate to do this, but in this case my annoying quantum analysis teachers answer to every question applies, "it depends." I think a used 3570 is an excellent value, but if you don't care for it, for any number of reasons, then it's not going to have much value to you.
