    Greetings all,

After a long and stressful year at school, I am back to create new surveys, sell some watches, and discuss watches with all of you fine folks.

So, my question is: which new (or used) Omega watches represent the best value per dollar spent? My opinion goes to a lightly used Speedy 3570.50 or an older model. I'm curious to see what your takes are!

@oddboy, this is your chance to make a cameo, my friend.

    Jeff

Which one has the most hydrogen inside? That would have the most bang in the good old days before they switched to helium.

That's an awful reference if you ask me.

Ignoring the Hydrogen and Noble Gas factors, I think a decent 3570.50 would be the best option.

You get the look of an iconic watch with a traceable ancestry to the moonwatch without the worry of parts obsolescence, decrepit hands and or dials and the risk of losing a very expensive (relative to a 3570) watch.

A caliber 552 or 562 Seamaster is worthy if you don't need a chronograph

I'd go for a vintage handwinding Geneve. If you look hard enough, $200-$300 gets you this:

I had one (sold long ago). Loved the winding action, medium size. An Aqua Terra with sentimental value now takes it's place, but if I had more room in my personal rotation, I'd keep this. The closest thing Omega has to this currently is the Tresor, which costs 50X more.

Second choice would be a Speedy Pro Mark II. Basically a Moonwatch with a funky case at half the price. Lots to love.

3rd choice is the SM300 coaxial. Because if they're selling Watchcos at $4K now, just get a real, new one.

It's not super inexpensive, but I think you get a hell of a lot of watch for your money with the 9300-based "Moonwatch" co-axial; particularly now that they can be found lightly used. A great blend of traditional look-and-feel with a very modern movement. After much deliberation I made it my first Speedy about a year ago and I still adore it.

Sword hand Seamaster with a 1120 movement 2254.50, 2255.80 or another close cousin :) Hell, even the quartz iterations are cool (ish).

'70s Speedmaster, without a doubt. I'd say the 145.022-71 is one of the better values out there. All the looks of the pre-moon -69 on the wrist, for 1/2 - 2/3 the price.

Omega Speedmaster mark 4.5. Day,date, chronograph, day night indicator, plus the case can be sperated from the movement/dial/bezel. Also has central minute counter for the chronograph.

Wow, wow, wow. I would love to find a Mark II in that condition. Most of the Mark II's I see come up look pretty used. That is a nice watch.

I love Omega - there are a lot of great watches that are great "bang for the buck". The entire "reduced" line can be purchased 2nd hand for very reasonable prices. The non-moon watch 42mm Speedmasters I believe are a great value. The broad arrow Speedmasters are great. They are not cheap but for what you pay you get a great watches.

Heck, I am seeing several examples of the DSOM coming up on the 2nd hand market for just under $7K. That is incredible. Talk about bang for your buck.

My next watch is a Seamaster 2201 - compared to a Rolex Sub or Sea Dweller - you are getting a heck of a watch, and a much better looking one at that for less than half the price.

This one represents best value for money for me also. I am an outdoor person and this is the Omega I go for when it's a day on the beach, a jog or a swim.
The AT comes a close second.

from the vintage category, my love for the sm300 (and why that is so) is by now probably well known.
from the modern omegas, i've grown to really, really like the aqua terra co-ax. simple, elegant looks and tough like a diver (the 8500 version also with better gauss protection than its rolex peers, per the experts)

I think the 2531.80 is my top pick, followed closely by a 3570.50. I'm a big fan of the affordable servicing for a 2531.80 and availability of parts. [IMG]
