Which looks better: Black strap or brown?

I know it is subjective, just like everything else about watches, but I’d like to know the prevailing opinion: Does black or brown look better on this watch, not considering matching clothing?
It would be fun to see your black vs brown comparisons too!

My first instinct was black as it is glossy and really enhances the gold case. But I decided to go with brown: it is less 'in your face' and exults some kind of quiet elegance: something very sepia about it 😀

Brown. However, it could change based on your complexion I think we need some wrist shots.

Still brown. Now, go get some sun.
Vampires can't go out in the sun. Just kidding. As one who is fair complected I can relate. Still brown though.

Depends on your shoes.

Here's another approach: When faced with one of these great philosophical questions (black strap vs. brown?) sometimes it helps to try a strap color that matches a secondary color on the dial. This has the effect of making that secondary color appear more prominent. Interior designers use this trick to "pull out" the secondary colors in a room.

On your watch, the minute track and printed text are black - even the hour markers on your watch look dark - and a black strap helps to make those items pop against the light dial. If the black glossy leather is too formal, try a matte calfskin.

Or you can do what I do, and ask @Syrte for help. 😀

Depends on what colour your shoes and belt are 😉

I feel terrible as a contrarian that likes black over brown. 🙁
