For beginners, my vote would be for the 3590.50. Last of the caliber 861/tritium Speedmaster Professionals, not hard to find in good original condition, and appreciating in value as the supply of reasonably priced 145.022’s in good condition continues to decrease.

Apollo XI hesalite sandwich. 345.0808 is a pretty rare, not as hard to find model.
Tritium indices, gilded movement...
It ticks all my boxes!!!

Great article. My vote is for 2021 sapphire.

I agree but 3861 initial glitches has spoilt the party IMO. I'd take one, after Omega addressed the issues in next production round.

imho, any version of the speedmaster professional 1861 hesalite brand new could be a good "gateway drug" to start with and you may be heading to any direction vintage or contemporary, depending on the budget, towards original ck2915, ck2998, or modern collections snoopy, olympic etc. at least that is how i became addicted to speedmaster. after a few collections, you might even think about adding the speedmaster automatic reduced as well. speedmasters are all attractive in different ways.

1863 Sapphire - only because I just got one and never expected to fall in love with it....but here we are...all other watches sent to security deposit, just me and my new (outgoing model) speedy pro sapphire...what else does a man need?
