I have recently purchased several omega watch movements and dials, most are complete and working and need some peer help to know what case number is correct for this one please.
Dial Omega Automatic. Geneve
movement Cal 565 automatic
movement number: 31158151

Any help will be greatly appreciated thank you.

Probably 166.070.

It’s always a risk buying dials without cases as it’s hard to be sure what case they came from and many aren’t interchangeable as diameter and clearance to the crystal can be specific

Thank you for the input.. I have dated the movement to 1969 and I am sure I can find a case for it.. also the dial/ hands can be replaced to suit the case, just hoping someone can give me some clues as to what to look for.

I'm not an Omega expert, but if my experience with vintage Seiko's is anything to go by finding a loose movement with dial and hands, especially in gold tone, usually means it originally came in a gold case that has been melted down. If that's the case finding an original case may prove difficult, but perhaps there are steel or gold cap variants that will work.

I am looking for a steel varient.. I know gold ones are impossible to find and not worth the price people ask for them.

Finding a case for it, may not be as straightforward as you think. As I said, it’s hard to be sure what the correct case is.

If you’re then scrapping this dial and just using the movement for a case, you have the reverse issue if you’re going to then search for a dial and hands. You’ll likely end up spending significantly more than if you just bought a whole watch from the start

Fortunatley I have more than a dozen great dials for seamasters and geneve models and many good sets of hands, I also have lots of cases, the issue is getting some guidence as to what is the likely case number, I think its 166.050 but I am not 100% sure which is why I am reaching out. I appreciate all input, thank you.

I think it's best in a gold case, but there's also a steel case. Ref 166.037

Thank you very much Mr Vo, I agree it would look better in a gold case, but impossible to find and if by a miracle I found one the price would be crazy.

It’s not going to be a 166.050 as that’s a Seamaster Cosmic, not Geneve.

This is the issue. I think it very possibly a 166.070 but the only way to tell is to compare the measurements to what’s known to be correct or actually try it to see if it fits and works

Don’t hold your breath I was waiting nearly 2 years for a case this is what I just completed with a movement I had. The case you’re looking for is a bit more common tho. At the end of the day it’s all down to the cost you don’t want to out do yourself wasting time and money when it would have been cheaper to just purchase a complete watch to start with. Tho is very rewarding when it pays off , good luck.
