You gubmint types always seem to have the inside line on porn 😁
Note- I did not search for it on any gubmint equipment- I had someone else find it.😎

Does your kid remember the name of the Japanese manga?

PhD in math huh? Your son deserved a lot of respect. Higher level math classes are difficult to say the least. I have a master of science degree in Math. Never took number theory classes, but I took up to Abstract Algebra 2 (Algebra) and Measure Theory (Analysis).

Learned beautiful things, but it was very tough for me.
My youngest doesn't recall the name. The eldest who is in his last year of his pHd program is preparing to defend his dissertation and is working on two papers for publication. When asked about Abstract Algebra 2 he said it was tedious but not difficult and Measure Theory was tricky.
His work looks like a foreign language to me and I long ago lost the ability to understand.
Maybe you can appreciate his table of contents and a page of his math...

Ask your son “where is the math below” 😉

This is his son writing:

Math is in:

•The *bleeping* turbulence of the water that we don't understand;
• Lindenmayer System (Iterated Function systems) present in determining the growth of things like plants (leaves, branches, etc)
• The golden ratio is present in the rotation factor of the stems of plant leaves (though not all plants have this particular leaf arrangement; the Jacaranda Tree has leaves that alternate at 90º, rather than at the golden ratio (≈120º)
• Raleigh scattering of the light by the sky
• The Heisenberg group present at the quantum level in all the atoms and molecules bouncing around in the picture
• Statistical mechanics modeling the motions of the gas particles that make up the atmosphere
• Continuity mechanics for modeling the laminar flow of the smoother parts of the river
• Conservative vector fields responsible for the electromagnetic force, be it from the earth's magnetic field or from the electric repulsion that keeps matter from collapsing in on itself.

I can go on...

I wonder if your student knows that there is an infinite supply of real porn on the internet. I am less concerned that his avatar is porn-related and more concerned that his tastes run towards cartoon drawings of sweaty fat men.

In a math class, of course, you'll not want to confuse "more than you could watch in a lifetime" with "infinite".

Check out Hilbert's pornadox site, at least twice as porn much as an infinite supply 😎

Haha.

Well, he didn’t want to tell me. And I said “I’m gonna find out, trust me.”

Now you know could you be so kind as to record your student's reaction to the news that you and 32767 of your closet buddies know and post the video here?

Got the answer- it is Japanese Hentai- basically this is animated porn. This student might as well have used John Holmes as his avatar

Just wanted to share something and see if you guys were down for the hunt.

Thanks for the comment

I asked someone young who then posted the question on social media and got an answer.
Nice!

That’s basically what I was trying to do with this forum. Haha

Any chance we can get the name of it?

thanks a million !

This student is being a smart-ass. Using an avatar like that is begging to be called out. It's akin to using a head shot (pardon the pun) of Marilyn Chambers as his avatar and acting coy when someone asks -who is the blond lady?
That said, he may be a connoisseur of fine Japanese illustration and graphic novels.

Haha

very true. I guess he has a different taste than most people lol

I’m surprised to see it’s porn though.

I thought it was just some video game pic or something

I agree.
Since he is being a cheeky shit- I suggest you don't say a word- don't give him the satisfaction.

And this form of graphic novel many people consider "art", so if you were to make a fuss about this- it could become a debate on what is art- and we already have that debate brewing in another thread.

I would take the opposite tact, and use it to embarrass him. I'd ask JW (😉) to get some info on other characters related to this one, and I'd find a way to mention one of them to the boy while other kids are nearby. If nothing else, the kids in your classes will wonder how deep your obscure knowledge goes, and they will be hesitant to behave in the same manner. Plus it will give you some entertainment watching him squirm/ sweat.

Wow.

Yeah that stuff is lovely when you’re into it, and a foreign language when you’re not.

I applaud him and admit that THAT is beyond me.

Might you be buying him a watch for graduation??!

Haha

I might just point out that my friends tracked it down, I found out it is inappropriate, and he must remove it.

😀

Just like I used to buy Playboy for the inciteful writing and interviews when I was a young adult
