I don't have to be in the desert 100 miles from anywhere to be an idiot. I can be an idiot anywhere. 😀

That's a lovely spot. I have some business to do in the Nevada desert somewhere around Winnemucca, but it's not pressing and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. Probably not in the summer.

Probably not in the summer.

I actually created a list of 14 critical failures that led to the situation I got myself into. The fact that it was summer wasn't even one of them.🙁

I guess I'm a special kind of idiot. Hold on, i'll ask my wife to confirm......🫨

I posted an image of the Kananaskis River where we were camped, on Wednesday (12th). This is what the campground looked like the morning of Thursday (13th). Took this just before we abbreviated our stay.

Spearmint Rhino, Vegas.
.

We can't hit agree without photos.

I don't have photos to post, nor have I personally done extensive travelling, but for where I have been:
There seems to be many votes for the Amalfi Coastal towns (Portofino, Cinca Terra, etc.), which are very nice.
However, my first place would have to go to Yosemite (which was mentioned early in the thread) with Jackson Hole/Grand Tetons in second.

Nepal; more specifically the Annapurna park and the trek that passes through and around the range.
Still hard to comprehend being in a valley between two peaks at 3000m and the mountains around rise up another 2-3000m still, mind blowing.
Then there are the beautiful, lovely Nepalese!
Sorry don't have any photos on this phone, will add some from computer if I remember.

Honorable mentions must go to;
North Italy for it's food and scenery
Switzerland in the winter, postcard!
NZ, yes it's home but it's still stunning.
Fiji and Vanuatu if you can get to the outer, lesser touched islands it's like stepping back 50 years and the people are incredible, truly a special place!
Ireland and the West coast of Scotland also...

Down a rabbit hole and found a thread that needs a few more pages.
Plenty of bias to Australia for the most beautiful.

But

New Zealand (South Island) has some beautiful scenery. Being a fisherman most photos have water 😉

I might have gone down a similar rabbit hole, and found you there.

I’ve not been to NZ, but sure hope to some day.

Meanwhile, in my heart and mind NZ shares something (I don’t know what) with the Alaskan bush, where I have been quite a lot. For my vote, huge swaths of the Alaskan bush is more beautiful than any other hyped place I’ve visited. (NZ awaits its chance...)

I’m sitting in that Beaver (photo taken by a friend):

To @STANDY point, I may be biased toward’s Alaska’s various perks...

I've been fortunate to have travelled to many interesting places and the amazing photos in this thread mean there are many more I'd like to get to eventually. Probably the most memorable area I've visited in terms of natural beauty and contrasting climate and lifestyle, is the Lofoten Islands off northern Norway and above the Arctic Circle. The area is probably solidly on the tourist map now (if it isn't, it will be) but back when I was there the public way to get there was on a mail ship from Bodø on the mainland. The journey itself was amazing but the destination was something to behold, as you can see below. I stayed in the youth hostel in Stamsund which was an old fishing hut sitting on stilts over the water's edge, with rows of drying racks for cod fish behind the building. Nobody was on site to manage the hostel, you just left your bed money for the manager to collect whenever he/she turned up, and when I was there the place was empty. All my photos are on slides so these are stock photos of the islands and the hostel.

Stamsund Youth Hostel now. Looks to have grown a lot, and the fish racks behind it are no longer there which is probably a good thing considering the smell that came from them.

I've never been quite able to pinpoint why, but in a lot of wonderful travelling, the teensy sea-side village of Alnmouth in northern England remains one of the most beautifully charming for me.

*Not my photo; unfortunately all of mine from that trip were lost years ago.

The Champs Elysee; Edinburgh's Royal Mile, and some of the hiking trails above/around Santa Barbara are all runners up, as well.

Probably the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii. That being said, I’m fortunate to live and work in a beautiful area of the US in my everyday life.

Jacques Cousteau was once asked where is the most beautiful place on earth and he replied it was Palawan in the Philippines.
We have been there and it truly is spectacular, beyond words.

It's also home to one of the most staggeringly expensive resorts in the world, popular with the likes of Bill Gates and Hollywood nobility.

Well this topic really brings me down considering the state of travel at the moment 🤔 For me the most beautiful place so far has been Turks and Caicos. Lost all my pictures when I broke my phone but luckily the wife has all the good ones.
