No, I didn´t know that, but will I get better prices here than on Facebook or Ebay?

So… you’d like to know if you can extract more money from us compared to from users on eBay?

This is a pretty silly question like "where can I buy an Omega for the least money". But I will give it the benefit of the doubt. On average, you will net about the same amount in my experience. Sometimes more, sometimes less. There are fees on eBay, but your watch is exposed to a larger audience. Chrono24 is also an option. In the end every seller has this same question so there is obviously no clear answer and no guarantees. Every watch and every sale is different, so you will have to try your luck.

Keep in mind that without a selling history, people may not be comfortable buying from you.

Chrono24 has some of the lowest fees at 6.5%. eBay charges 12.55%, but you’ll reach a much larger universe of potential buyers. If you’re hoping to make a living buying and selling vintage watches, you’re going to be profoundly disappointed.

And of course there is the question of what exactly you are selling. Here in my experience you have the most respectful buyers (those that are long standing members at least) We are honest and keep the internal market fairly clean. But you have to be a member in good standing with 200 + posts. So, in the short term I'd say ebay or Chrono but protect yourself from Scammers.

Why I want to know where I can get highest prices for my watches?? Isn´t that obvious?

There are no simple answers to your question as there are too many variables. I've sold a few watches over the years and have used a number of options... auction house, private sell using a forum, eBay, on consignment with dealers, and outright cash with gray market dealers. As previously mentioned in this thread, the majority of avenues for selling a watch usually involve fees. Auction houses will charge anywhere from 5 to 20 percent sellers fees plus odds and ends, consignment fees usually run 10 to 15 percent, and eBay charges a little over 12.5 percent. How much is the watch? Is it vintage or contemporary? Is it in big demand? What is the condition of the watch? Does it need a major service? All these factors will and should affect your decision. If you were selling a Rolex Paul Newman, I'd probably utilize an auction house. If the watch is relatively inexpensive, say less than 7K ( relatively is the key word ) then I would strongly consider a watch forum's marketplace and sell it privately, however, you must remember that private buyers are looking for a good deal as you cannot offer a 1 -2 year warranty as a grey market dealer can and buyers know you are not paying a commission on the sell, but, then weigh that against the fact that you won't be charging sales tax... of course, grey market dealers have ways around that too, but, eBay will charge sales tax. It's complicated. There is no one right answer for a given time or a given watch.

Do your homework and contact gray market dealers, at least four, and find out how much they will offer you outright for your watch. Search watch forums and find listings of your watch and compare condition and prices. Check eBay, Chrono24 and look at auction sales; call an auction house or two. Once you have all the necessary information, you will make a decision that works best for you.

eBay sellers have gotten it right: mark up your watch 3x above market value and let your listing sit unsold for years and years.

Well. I did'nt really feel the urge to tell you if you're only looking for some profit. Especially if you're some shady dealer or private seller who comes here to the forum to just use the knowledge of the collective and then disappear. If you were selling the collection of your past grandmother it would be different. But you already received some great answers.

We had some real douchebags over here coming for advice...

maybe first good step is to offer your watch/es to your collector friends.
