When Did Omega Start Making Gmt Watches?

Ok, this might get bumped to the modern forum too (sorry about that), but I guess I'll forego the power reserve indication. So how about that GMT function though? When did they first come out? Are any more rare than others?

For reference, I'm shooting for the $1k to $6k range. I want an automatic with a 24 hr GMT function (the Pan listed in my earlier thread was only a 12 hr GMT).

The Great White GMT is a nice choice, that generation of Seamasters were affordable and had the best lume ever.

Wow! It's gorgeous! When were they made, and how much would a great specimen go for now? Is there anything unique that makes them more desireable on the market?

AFAIK they were made in the early to mid 2000s, now discontinued. That movement is no longer made, and that series was the only one to feature a 24H rotating bezel in Omega's lineup. They also came in a black dial version with a half silver, half black bezel, but that white dial was called the Great White (for obvious reasons) and was a unique look in Omega's lineup. Its the GMT version of the 2254.50 series, which is a very highly regarded watch in and of itself.

The lume on these watches is absolutely brilliant, as you can see below:

Omega started making GMT watches in the 70's with the Flightmaster and other watches powered by Lemania automatics.

They weren't true GMTs though IIRC, the Flightmaster may have been, but I believe the Lemania automatics were 24H time watches rather than GMTs, in that the 24H hand was not independent.

I really like the black version:

Also had a blue version:

I like the black one too with the exception of the two tone bezel. I think for the GMT I would have to go with a Great White and just get a 2254.50 to satisfy my need for a black dialed diver.

Looks nice, but at just under $2900 seems a little steep to me.

They take offers. I think about £1400 is more like market price over here for a really clean one. The black faced ones seem to go for a bit less.
