Specially the gold watches. How much does an engraving dedicating the watch to an obscure president of a minor firm affects the desirability of a given watch?

Depends on the artistic merit of the engraving, IMO.

Later presentations tend to be machine made and boring.

A tasteful engraving can definitely add intrigue and increase desirability.

If it started with W10 or 0552, it would be good usually!

I really don't mind engraving on the case back. As a collector of vintage watches, I see it as an intriguing part of the history.

Although many here wouldn't mind an engraving, I would say that on average, the value of the watch decreases with its presence.

I don't feel comfortable wearing a watch engraved with another guys name....... If it's been owned by a former President, Astronaut, or other in such laegue, I might be able to live with it, though.....😀
