I can't believe how much these are going for at eBay. At this price, why don't you just get the real thing? ::facepalm1::

Love all the people saying what a failure this has been. It didn't look like a failure when I walked up to the Gare Cornavin to get my train to Geneva Airport this morning and passed a huge queue outside the Swatch shop. At 8 am.

The side effect for this is people will start to notice everyone’s real Speedmaster and think they are swatch. The average Joe can’t tell a Rolex or Omega from a Casio…
do you judge others by the clothes they wear or items they own? I wear a "real" Omega because I enjoy quality and not what others think.

I don’t know how people consider this a good look for Omega and Speedmaster.

It’s killing it for me, as I have a decent collection I hope it passes……..because I feel like I’m over it. Started to cringe looking at my own Speedmasters.

The cheaper Speedmasters get, the more I can afford. No problemo!

That's it, I've had it. I'm not going to "like" any MoonSwatch IG posts. That'll show 'em.

Call me sentimental, but a young budding enthusiast mistaking a real Speedmaster for a Swatch is a nice conversation starter. Many wouldn't otherwise think twice about it.

Looks like they are trying to further reassure everyone there will be further stock. Hoping that helps cool off this reselling madness.

You are correct. It’s definitely not a failure for the Swatch brand, but the Omega brand? Stay tuned.

The day grey market is going down already , at lunch time the watches where around 1000 chf, at 4 Pm 600 chf, at 6 Pm 400 chf, at 7pm I posted and ad saying want to buy the pink one and ready to pay 200 chf ( 50 below the price tag) and I get it , people just realized they made the bad choice today speculating on something that as no value .

incredible situation .

It's an interesting question. I suspect it won't devalue the Omega brand, but it won't do much for it. But I imagine it will awaken further interest in Speedmasters. The Daily Mail in the UK had a long (and surprisingly mistake free) article about this today. Most people reading it will never have even heard of a Speedmaster. And whilst I saw lots of comments being pretty rude about the people queuing, I didn't see one single comment criticising either the Swatch collaboration or the Speedmaster.

Ive just looked on ebay UK and some have bids of over a £1000 already. It's a plastic watch with a quartz movement. The world has gone mad

On what sales platform?

Because the most active platform I’m aware of doesn’t tell this story (this the data for moon version, but others look the same in degrees)

Someone posted on Rolexforum

"Just got through to an agent on Swatch’s 1-800 number here in the states. She said these will NOT be sold online here in the USA. This is due to a specific request from Omega that they do not want these sold through the online Swatch USA website. She said it’s already set in stone that is a firm NO. Just relaying what I was told.

The posts you see saying it’ll be sold online at a “later date” is for European markets. Makes sense since all those Swatch accounts on Instagram posting it are the foreign entities and not the USA account."

So looks like this won't really be available if this is true.
I was told the same thing Friday, but I’m not convinced it wasn’t to have the public think store purchases were the only option. If it were widely known they’d be available later with no queues or stabbings the buzz would be blunted.

Allowing other countries to buy on-line while refusing the same in the USA would insult and possibly anger their largest market.

I still believe they want to move massive amounts of product while they can and that can be best accomplished on-line.

You mean like Omega requiring US residents to physically visit an OB instead of ordering an Archive Extract online from their couch? No riots or boycotts because of that.

I cannot stop laughing at this seller's delusion - and stupidity. Planning watch world domination, this person waited in line at a large shopping mall in a Vancouver suburb while the rest of us slept in. Meet at a police station? To what? Save the buyer from killing himself laughing?

The downside of what is clearly a successful branding exercise.
