10 years is actually 2012-2021 as you include both ends of the interval.

only attempting to match the assertion of revenues staying flat over “the last ten years” to the data - 2012-2021 wasn’t flat (nor was 2011-2020)?

Omega's individual annual report? 😁 and where might that be. A few days ago when I checked the group's, there was no breakdown of revenue and profit by brand. It seems to me you're either just infering the conclusions from other incomplete data or you have inside knowledge from omega.

By “feel free” I meant only to go do whatever research you think relevant

I’m inferring from incomplete data - same as everyone else

But the SWF annual reports are pretty detailed, reliable and clear on the Swiss-wide manufacturing and sales data over the past 10 years. Those trend’s relative impacts to Swatch Group vs Omega vs peers seem straight-forward accounting for their relative exposures to the trends. (For just one example, Swatch Group is uniquely manufacturing-heavy compared to any peer, and on the quartz vs mechanical front getting uniquely hit from both sides: Swatch is pretty much the only significant Swiss quartz and electronic components manufacturer, while it’s mechanical movements are required for anti-monopoly reasons to supply its competitors.)

Despite headwinds unique to the peer group , Swatch Group as a corp (but also Omega as a brand) have done pretty well compared to any peer that weathered the same period. (Elephant in the room: I don’t view Rolex SA to be a relevant peer.)

Being so bottom heavy in price points heading into a smartwatch explosion is I guess a fair critique of Swatch Group management? But that seems a far narrower critique than broadly suggesting that any Swiss watch company experiencing “flat” revenues and decreased net profits over the last 10 years are incompetent by definition.

People always want to make a few bucks, but this seems excessive. These people are waiting in line for hours, pushing and shoving their way through a nasty crowd, during a pandemic, for a 1-in-8 chance of reselling for a few hundred dollars. I don't get it.

Folks, being a “reseller” is an entire industry and lifestyle that exists far beyond the Rolex flippers you’re well used to.

If Rolex sold SS sports watches on a first-come first-serve basis at only certain exclusive B&M, you better bet there’d be riot control.

As someone said earlier: what you’re seeing now is no more or less than the down-market version of the luxury watch flippers you’re used to

Walked by after I got a bit of breakfast. The line was growing

i only think it’s mostly flippers because it just looked like the crowds waiting for supreme and other hype culture items.

slightly off topic, but Casio Nasa DW5600 still trade for triple their list price of $140.

Many people have complained about the excessive packaging Omega has used, like the often disliked 'suitcase' for the Speedmaster, and how they would like a simpler box. Well, here you go. Maybe Omega is taking note.
Indeed... they should as marketing goes a long way
Potato ... Potatoe
Tomato ... Tomatoe
Hesalite ... Plexiglass
BioCeramic ... Plastic
😁

Do they? I’m seeing them listed on ebay with. BIN of $198. Plus, those watches are limited edition.

At least that's a limited edition ... and a good watch.

Can we get a few side shots of the case, and where the case back attaches?
There is no case back. It’s a solid piece of plastic.

Remember, Swatch saved Omega; looks like the favour has been returned. Payback

Can you point me to more info on this? Curious to learn more.

I'm curious to know why many people want to flip to make a few bucks? I can understand a group of friends (young) just wanting to get together for something to do and make a few bucks while doing it. Or is there bigger issues where folks are doing this to make ends meet?

This is huge in the knife world. Buy two sell one for double or triple get yours for free. EBay sellers have nearly every new release on there site within hours.
Spyderco have many colours in sprint runs at only 600 dealers exclusives that sell out in minutes at $200 and are $500 within minutes on EBay with hundreds to choose from. These aren’t even knife guys, just resellers that resell anything that’s hot. Knifes, sneakers, clothing, accessories you name it. It’s a living for them. They employ family, relatives friends to buy as many as they can.

I don’t know how people consider this a good look for Omega and Speedmaster.

It’s killing it for me, as I have a decent collection I hope it passes……..because I feel like I’m over it. Started to cringe looking at my own Speedmasters.

After 48 hours of this ordeal I still like my Omegas, but I feel the hype and the roll-out have been badly handled.

Disorganized lines, uncertain quantities and apparently sporadic friction in the crowds.

Of the assembled masses I would guess there are more disappointed buyers than those satisfied.

Had they rolled out the watches at the stores while simultaneously placing them on the web site for purchase, things would’ve gone smoother, web crashes aside.

In addition, from the time I saw them (and heard the price) my ardor has cooled almost to the point of indifference.

At this point I might just wait and pick one up on the hop from a pawn shop instead of joining the mob in a rush.
