What were your favorite acquisitions in 2024 (watches)?

Another year is about to end, and even though I’ve been rather quiet here I’ve started to reminisce about how the horological side of the year has gone.

I produced the same topic the last years and loved to see which arrivals the members here were excited about, so with another year gone, let’s see what’s new.

Which ones are your favorite new arrivals? Have you found a grail, either new or vintage? What was your surprise-of-the-year purchase? Share as many as you like.

My picks:

I’ve focused a little more this year and there were a few additions to the collections that deeply excited me. Those of you who know me a little won’t be surprised by their theme, I suppose.

1. Seamaster 2577 with a black wave dial

70 year old watches rarely ever come along in this condition. Add one of the most uncommon dial variants produced on those first-gen SMs and you end up with a no-brainer, really.

2. Seamaster 2577 in rose gold with a „golfball“ dial

I‘ve written about those funky little things. So hard to find, so lovely to behold. It’s one of my favorite structures and I had seen but one example on rose gold before. Certainly one to not leave the collection anytime soon.

3. Seamaster 2520 chronometre

Another one that unites an uncanny condition, a super attractive configuration and a couple very special details, like those diamond-style indices, a perfect black honeycomb dial and a chronometre-grade movement. Oh, did I mention a razor-sharp 18k case? I‘m in love…

Enjoy the holidays, whatever occasion you might be celebrating. No matter where, no matter how. Just have a good time. Share some love.

And now, let’s see what 2024 had in stock for you!

I picked up a proper dress watch with the JLC Master Hometime. Then on a whim, I bought the Moonswatch, Pluto, which needed a tube of Polywatch to remove the scratches on the crystal.

That golf ball dial is very cool! Never seen that before.

I only bought one, Railmaster 36 mm 2504.52. I've had a Railmaster on my radar for a while as a next watch instead of an Explorer, and I was leaning pretty heavily towards getting one as a celebration if I could negotiate a new career move. That worked out in my favour, and as a stroke of amazing luck (fate?) a freshly factory serviced 2504.52 with papers appeared not long after, the first and so far only one I've seen from a dealer in Australia. I managed to snap it up for a fair price and everything came up Milhouse.

I'd also like the newly released Casio G-Shock DW-5000R reissue of the original, but unfortunately demand is outstripping supply at the moment. I expect I'll pick that up next year, but I don't expect any more watches for a while otherwise.

Perhaps the most exciting acquisition of 2024 was not actually a new acquisition, but the restoration of a Howard pocket watch I inherited from my father. After many years, I was able to find the correct dial and mostly correct hands.

Otherwise, I added some nice watches to my collection, but nothing earth-shattering. Here are some of my favorites.

Hi there,

A year cut in 2 for me : busy begining of the year and completely quiet since May.
Ended up adding those 4 Omegas in the 1st quarter - all coming from fellow OF members that I thank for having passed those beauties to me - know that I wear those regularly with pleasure !

- Constellation 2782 in YG14K from Iamvr :

- Constellation 168.005 in SS from ChrisN :

- Constellation 14393 calendar in Gold cap from ChrisN :

- Speedmaster 145.012-67 from 140Dave :

And I sold 3 this year which is an absolut record for me : a skin diver Silvana, and 2 Tissot PR516.

Of course, I'm regretting a few I did not act quickly enough to add to my collection. That's life 😀

So for 2025, I know my resolution : sell sell sell to be able to buy one like Matt is showing above when they come my way.

Have a great end of the year !

(PS : sorry for the crappy pictures, I wanted to share now but it is dark here)

Thanks @MtV for making this thread every year!

In 2024 I was able to purchase my grail, a 105.012 🥰

To my own surprise I also bought another Speedmaster, the new FOIS, which I just couldn't resist 😀

In the end I also got some chocolate which I liked a lot, especially the event it was from. An awesome Speedmaster year for me ::psy::

This thread made me realize I did not buy any watches in 2024. But I did take possession of a Cartier and a Seamaster when we cleaned out my dad's apartment during his move to a a managed care facility. I had asked him a few years ago about having a Seamaster, as my mom was pretty sure she bought him a used one in the 1980s, but he was adamant that he did not own an Omega. Turns out he was wrong 😀

I'm not sure what to do with the Cartier, as it's part of a pair he bought for himself and his 2nd (and an ex) wife. I know he spent $$$ a couple times at a jeweler getting it worked on; I'm not sure yet what damage they might have done. It's an automatic.

These are still "acquisitions" IMO, so let's see the photos.

This year is a memorable watch-year for me. A watch I bought in 2017 met its owner for the first time, last night. This watch waited 7 years for my son.

My son graduated college and we are over the moon to finally kick him out of the house. One more to go, and we are free, muahahhhahaha.

This one, thanks to @Laneside of Scotland. Not my only acquisition this year, but this one is the pinnacle. Bulova Accutron 214, from circa 1967. It’s a humdinger!

I bought too many watches this year, 27 plus 4 pocket watches. My favourite is probably the last one in the door, this 2019 Stowa Classic 36mm and one of the first I bought this year, my Black Bay 54. I'm really enjoying my Marathon GPQ, a vintage Movado and four vintage Omegas, 3 of which I purchased from the @dsio Recommended eBay Vintage Omegas and one from a private seller here.

Some of these watches are on leather straps I made for them.

For 2025, looking to sell my 1956 Zenith and buy a 1960s Longines.

Added a Speedmaster Gemini 4, with one of the best panda dials; sunburst blue with silver subdials. Simply striking and pictures so not do it justice!

After the fiasco with the first one I was able to find another. I love this dial.
