Even Patek Philippe and other "top" houses were using F. Piguet and Jaeger-LeCoultre movements in this era! Although I think few would argue the quality of these movements in the hands of PP/AP/V&C.

Sad but True..Even some of there in-house movements were sub-par! I wore a Patek Nautilus #3800 as my daily beater for a couple of decades. It was powered by one of Patek's worst movements in-house movements, cal.335. It was one of their few movements that did not have the Geneva Seal. Needless to say I got to know the Pat Cancilla at Henri Stern Watch Agency New York ;-(

I have no issue with it, but forum responses are a funny old thing at times aren't they... I asked the same question for 1971 and the advice was "don't do it", "you'll miss out on lots of nice watches if you do it that way".

This thread has been helpful though.

May be it's 1971!!?? LOL Was that just a bad year (my Mum seems to constantly remind me of the pain she endured!!) 馃槈

Normally the Speedy purists (all 321 addicts to a tee ;-) wouldn't give recommendations for an early '70s birth year watch, but in this case, you've got three addicts of the "straight text" 861 all spotting it and chiming in...

Here's mine ;-)

I'd second a speedy. As well as the straight text moon watch, I believe the pre-moon case back was still being sold (although possibly not produced) in 1970.

Heres my '69 cal 861, sold in 1970
