It was a gift from his mother so a special watch for him.
And yet is considered fairly mundane by many Omega fans (inc me) as it is is the quartz mid combo. Diana should have read OF.

This news article caught my eye, not for the headline but for the photo. I can’t get a particular good resolution on my phone, can anyone else tell what watch Prince William is wearing?

Seamaster Professional 2561.80 (midsize quartz model). It was a gift from his mother.
This is the automatic chronometer version (2551.80):

She died 15 years before OF began….and 7 years before Facebook started. 😗

Nice watch for a teenage boy…which he was when he got it. It’s sweet to see he still wears it.

Give the caliber 1538 a chance @padders
It's anything but mundane 👍

I have read her death shone light on a complex set of cultural tensions in which the boundaries dividing nationhood and citizenship, charity and activism, private feeling and public politics, were reset across the globe........ Imagine if FB and influensers had been around 😗

Oh I'm not fully anti-quartz, indeed I've had a few, inc a 2265 SMP, SM120M multifunction, an X-33 and a Pre-Bond. The only one I have at present is a quartz AT so I do see the point of the 1538 and its cousins. I keep that one as a utility grab and go beater, but an Apple watch does that pretty well too it must be said.

I was commenting more on the combo. For most SMP models There are 4 combinations and Q-Middy is the least desirable and least valuable of the 4, with full size auto being the most valuable, and the others in between. In fact there can be more combos since some models have ladies sizes too but I am overlooking those for the purposes of this thread.

IMHO there's not enough love out there for the mid size SMP. It's a great size and I've seen guys with 6.5in-7.0in wrists wear it without looking too small. I, for one, am grateful that Omega has it in its range of divers alongside the 38mm Planet Ocean. I can understand why the mid size SMP doesn't fetch as much on the secondary market given that these days most men of average size prefer a watch of at least 40mm case diameter.

I recently bought one. It is supposed to be a present for my youngest daughter's graduation in 2024. At her own request, of course. She wanted the same watch that Prince Willam always wears. Wherever a 16-year-old teenage girl might get something like that from, I've no idea but always the better option rather than 1y's backpacking in Austalia or so 😵‍💫😀
