No. They're a symbol of remembrance for the millions of British Commonwealth soldiers who paid the ultimate price in World War One.

yes, the Watch Time special magazine on the Seamaster included a discussion of this particular watch given to him by his mother. If memory serves me, it's a quartz version, though no one would fault him for continuing to wear it.

also, I think honoring the poppy is a noble thing. Just watched 1917 today and have read some accounts of WWI, amazing

For your penance, and education, go see the new film 1917. Well worth your time.

Also recommended is They Shall Not Grow Old, superb effort by Peter Jackson in 2018. Both of these films shed new light on The Great War, most of which is not taught anymore. Talk about hell on earth.

    Yes.
My grandfather fought in the trenches and was medically discharged after being gassed.
I assume it was Chlorine gas.
He died quite sometime after the war before I was born as a result of the damage to his lungs from gasing.
He was a very damaged individual on every level by all accounts.

Horses and men died in the mud simply from drowning among all the other things.
The flu seriously compounded things as well.

When I lived in Birmingham some of the old-school jewelers would always refer to this as the 'Prince William' model and just glare at you if you referred to it as the Bond. I actually got mine whilst living there and still absolutely love it, relatively basic though it may be.

And yes, never, EVER insult the poppy to an Englishman...it will end poorly.

    No probs.

In a global community it's not always easy to know everything about other nation's customs and what they mean to those who participate.

Whilst the symbol commenced as a wwi remembrance it is actually now more widely used to commemorate those who died in ALL conflicts.

it also seems to be a boy’s size, or at least a smaller size—which would make sense considering he was still a child when she died.
Or he’s got very large wrists.

Yep. One of the two days in the year when I take some quiet time by myself to remember the mates that didn't come back, and those who did come back but aren't the same as they were when they went.
