What was your School watch?

One day, I was ruminating and realised the watch I wore during my University days was stashed somewhere at home.

It was a CASIO CMD-40 TV Remote Watch and it was the coolest thing I remember seeing on a family friend in primary school. Fast forward to when I left for university, my parents managed to pick up one of these for around SGD$90 in one of those neighbourhood pop and mop watch shops. I wore this quite proudly during my earlier part of university only to switch it out to a G-shock Mudman/Luminox Sentry 0200 later on.

After some rummaging I found it in my missus drawer. Watch head only but with springbars in-situ, crystal had a big gash down the middle and evidently battery was dead.

A quick trip to the shops brought back a CR2032 battery and after some googling how to access the battery compartment I managed to get the new battery in. Finally an AC reset brought it back to life! I actually feared it would've been all but dead.

Managed to score a NOS CASIO strap for this watch on the Bay and after a couple of nights with polywatch it looked good to go! I daresay the lumed numbers even look slightly patina-ed.

So what was your School-going watch? (doesn't matter if you don't have it in your possession!)

I’ve no idea what happened to my Smith’s Astral, which I haven’t seen for over fifty years so I googled it.

Mine originally came on a tan pigskin strap but during my teens I started using stripey nylon straps (the term 'Nato' didn’t exist then).

Smith’s advertised their Astral and Empire watches as suitable for boys and men.

Never wore a wristwatch on a regular basis till high school , carried a Biltmore pocket watch most of the time in grade school.
Later got a Timex electric wristwatch, but don't remember when I started wearing it, late 60's I think.

My timekeeper from school days was the school bell, and later in high school we even had an electric horn to sound lesson times and go home time (my favourite).

I didn't own a watch until I was 17 and I bought an Omega Seamaster 600 as I thought it would suit my embryonic Navy career.

Ah, the school bell 😀. When I was at Primary school every kid wanted the job of running down the hallway in the afternoon ringing the hand bell as hard as they could 😁. The only other job that got close was handing out the free milk midway through the morning.

I thought this was so cool in the late 80s when I was just starting secondary school:

(photo grabbed from the Internet)

I was a shortwave radio nerd and loved the fact that I could check the time across the world whilst I tuned into various international stations.

In primary school they were Timex watches. When I got to secondary school I mainly had Seiko and Loris watches. I have always liked watches, even as a small child. When I was 16 I worked all summer and bought a Tag Heuer F1 as a reward to my self for working all summer. I did save 90% of my earnings but wanted something tangible as a reward. My best friend bought a Casio g shock, which I think cost around 70 pound. Friends thought he was mental for spending that much on a watch, mine was 200 pounds. You can imagine what they thought of me.

I was a Timex guy all through grade and middle, then It was a 1970s Bulova with a blue dial. Survived HS and University. I probably tossed it.

Rotated between the Timex and the Seiko. Seiko was a high school graduation gift. Timex I bought and wore mostly through college. The Seiko is still chugging along but the light doesn’t work. Oh if watches could talk! 😎

While not my first watch, and not this exact model, my Timex Marathon was beloved for a year or so in elementary school. I spazzed out so hard when I got it for Christmas, when I was about 9 years old.

My school’s bell must’ve been synched or set regularly to an atomic reference, because I quickly memorized my watch’s daily deviation and I was the kid who could (and would!) interrupt our teacher with my obnoxious “3... 2... 1...” and drop my finger just as the bell rang at the end of the day.

I had a see through Jellyfish from 1984-1989.

Then one of these on a black strap like this one in dark green with a black bezel.

As a 9 year old, I had a 25mm Timex, very similar to this. No second hand for me.

My daughters had Swatch FlikFlak watches - but only one still wears a watch
