I’ve just acquired an old steel bracelet and would welcome any views on whether it works or not or what else might work

I'd be a stickler about the lug width difference but aesthetically the bracelet and the watch work! It's also cool to see a black dial with red track!

Indeed, it isn't easy these days finding good quality vintage bracelets for reasonable prices. Most with any affiliation with a 'known' brand such as Omega or Gay Freres go for exorbitant prices. This, of course, isn't something unexpected but does leave little options.

Longines 1940 A11-USAAC (US Army Air corps). Evidently this one didn’t see much fighting.

The inscription on the caseback makes it so much more than a timekeeper. There's history and a person now part ofthis watch forever. Thanks for sharing and congrats on finding a bezel.

Thanks @Syrte & @jantjewgm 😀

Here are some shots
Neat piece. I wonder if you know the reference and order numbers? Presumably, the serial number dates the watch to the early to mid-1940s?

Not sure about reference but movement serial is around 6,2 mil.

Thanks for the response. 6.2 million should be early 1940s, which definitely fits with the dial/hand design. I am curious about the case because I am accustomed to seeing this dial in more angular cases. If you open the case-back or get an extract, I would be interested to learn more.

Just picked this one up today, but i can’t seem to find the ref. number for it anywhere. I’ll get my watch guy to open it up in a few days and fit it with new crystal and a cleanup, but so far I am really excited about it. 2pxeWvf
