What should I look for?

I am awaiting arrival (tomorrow) of my new/unworn PO 232.32 44.22.01.002/GMT (orange numbers) purchased from TWC (Japan). I am trying to research as much as I can (daunting process). This is a new watch/no longer produced (a few years old) so I am wondering what I should be looking for when I open the box as far as performance of the watch..ie winding etc. I have read that watches may need oiling?...I am hoping someone can teach me how to identify if anything seems amiss?
Thanks....

If it’s new/unworn, it should be good to go. You’ll know if there’s a problem if it doesn’t keep time within a few seconds per day. Assuming it’s just been sitting and not been used for any length of time, it shouldn’t need service or lubrication anytime soon.

I totally agree with you.

^^^ What they said. It should be issue free, if there is something amiss it will show up in the timekeeping. Just wind it and wear it and keep an eye on the rate. All should be ok.

As @Evitzee noted, use one of those sites.

Accurate time keeping and monitoring is based on consistency, don't expect a watch to give reliable results if you wear it for a day, leave it for two, wear it for an hour etc etc.

Wind it fully on "day one" and set time to one of the links, then maintain a routine of wake up, sh!t/shave/shower, get dressed, put your watch on, give it about ten or so manual winds and then go about your normal day.

Don't check the time until the end of a week! Then compare it to the time on whatever site you use.

I know.......it's an automatic, so it should be perfect, but it's still a mechanical movement subject to variations in the positions it's worn and rested at, and if the wear/rest cycle is not regular the timekeeping will fluctuate.

If you are active during the day you could probably forget the morning winding, but it wouldn't hurt.

Let's know how it goes.

Hi and congratulations on your new PO!

As others have said, if it keeps good time then it’s probably good to go for a while. It might be worthwhile though to get the water resistance checked if it’s been sitting for several years.
