I have seen white 1680 full sets with asking prices more than Red Subs.

Also, it seems like there are more Reds on the market than Whites...used to a be ton, but not much anymore.

Really Matt. R those asking prices or sold ones? Really good 1680 white r around 7k. I wouldn't pay more than 9k b&p. Good reds r 15k n up no b&p.

I blame it on the autoconnect.

Haha...nah the whites are between AUD10-11k and the reds around 16k. I meant that I wasn't sure about paying an extra AUD6-7k for one line of red print 0- but as someone said earlier it's all about the detail

It really comes down to preference. Shut down the noises n choose the one that sings to u. When u wears it, do u keep looking at the time sort of thing.

Those were asking prices...I doubt they will get it. I am with you, a full bps 1680 should be in the $9-10k range...and I have one!

Still trying to figure out the Red market. I don't really know where mine fits in the mix value wise...don't really care as I don't plan on selling.

I don't see many decent 1680 whites out there...are ppl cannibalizing them for Reds???

I would not buy anything 1680 right now based on the ridiculous asking prices, including Reds.
I have seen this particular market be beyond $10k, go well below $10K, and now to its current ridiculous value....
Not going there..
The 1680 Red is a common entry point for new Rolex vintage collectors/investors entering the Vintage realm as that is what they can relate to..

I don't see anything you'd have an issue with moving with ease...I'd defer to wrist time. What's the one piece out of the line up that you put on the least?

Best,

Thomas

Up and down...up and down...just like waves in the ocean is the vintage Rolex market.

Got mine back in 2006 for less than what a decent 300 goes for today, so I don't have a dog in the fight.

All it took was one year. The prices had steadily increased since the Great Depression 2 but manageable. Then 2016 came and everything vintage Rolex went banana n took everything else with it including omega, heuer, zenith etc. The first reference that went cookoo was the 5513 maxis. Then snowflakes almost double in price. The latest to catch the train was the Pepsi 1675. Along with it decent fuchsia inserts selling between 2 - 3 k. These r the more common references. The exotic ones like milsub, big crown, blue berries went even more out of reach. Interestingly comex watches were stalling though. So what's the moral of the story? We all don't know sh?t. I lament not wanting to pay 50k for a nice milsub last year. Or that Tudor MN that I missed. It could happen next year when u think back, hey that red sub is not that expensive anymore. Happy holidays everyone. [emoji482]

Update: a mate saw my BLNR while I was sporting it over a cup of coffee when we were catching up for Xmas, made an offer, and bought it on the spot for a Christmas present for himself. Now it's either the 114060 ceramic sub or the 14270 Explorer, but either way, getting closer to a 1680.

Good work...sell both the Sub and Explorer.

If you are still in business and considering, I think you should keep the 14270. It is an understated classic IMO, and the (some say small) 36mm case suits your wrist!
What is the update? 🍿

The BLNR has gone, the 114060 ceramic is up for sale and I have an offer on the Pepsi (but unsure if I can let it go). I do like the Explorer. The 5513 is the keeper out of that lot for sure.

Current: The BLNR and the Sub C 114060 gone

so remaining

1. 16750 pepsi (keeper)
2. 14270 (in two minds as it's in superb/minty condition)
3. 5513 (Keeper)

Getting close to thinking about the next purchase 1680 - not so sure on the red any more (bit of a minefield) quite like the late '70s white, but what do you guys think? 🍿

I don't want to say "Obviously..." BUT - only the last two must stay.

Honestly, in the current market.. letting go of the 16750 is going to yield you much more "value" compared to 14270.

Have to disagree. The explorer is almost the platonic ideal of a watch
