Okay need some wise heads here... If I am to add a 1680 (hopefully red) to my collection then the collection will need a shake up and one or even two of the following will have to go, but which? 14270 Explorer 114060 sub 116710 BLNR 5513 16750 Your two cents worth will be much appreciated...
He's trying to divest, and you're enabling another purchase??!! I approve. For me, the BLNR would go first, followed by the Explorer. In the end, you gotta decide for yourself.
Now where is that coffee... OK..Take 2. If you're going vintage, the Explorer and the GMT II C would hit the road if I were in your shoes
For a nice Red, like everyone else said, the Batman and Explorer. You will love a 1680 Red...just get the right one like you did your 5513.
Tough decision(s). I would have to go with Darlinboy and say the BLNR first. Wish I had the money to make you offer.
My experience with Rolex is that vintage and modern don't coexist very well unless you have the means to buy what you want without too much pain. I had a modern Daytona and Sea-Dweller in my vintage Rolex collection and theydidn't last...Sold them to get a 1665 and loosen up some cash flow. There was no way I could afford a 1665 without letting something go and selling the modern watches was a no-brainer. I also understand the need to have something to wear on a daily basis without fear. Your 114060 fits the bill but if you want neo vintage for a sweet price, the matte 16800 is the way to go...Sapphire, quickset, 300 m resistance and that warmth of a matte dial..Your collection would look grand!
Sell all those crappy Rolexes and buy a whole bunch of Speedmasters. After all, it's hip to be a sheep.
Right now the 5531 and the 16750 and most likely the Explorer (kind of really like that one) will stay, but the ceramics, as some have said, are pretty much easily replaceable. Two subs makes one redundant I know, but to my collector head, two vintage subs, one with and one without date, can compliment each other as two sides of the same coin.
It depends whether you're trying for the comprehensive divewatch collection, or you're trying to cover different looks of watch for different occasions.
True that. I fall into the try and be as comprehensive as possible group. I try and actively avoid occasions of any description that require me to wear more than a T-shirt, jeans and sneakers Edit: that's why I think I am finding the new ceramics a little too blingy, though I am more comfortable wearing the ceramics on an Everest or Rubber B or a leather strap.
