What say ye? Rolex and Omega, in a word.

Ok, I’ll be serious now.

Omega: Watch

Rolex: Brand

...or alternatively, different approaches to watchmaking and branding. In my opinion each watchmaker is better off for the other watchmaker’s existence.

I know I’ll think of one for Omega, but Rolex - in a word - would likely be “Rolex”.

Like: Apple makes the Rolex of cellphones.
Or
The way folks used to say X was the Cadillac of X.

Personally I don’t think it is as simple as that, but I think your opinion is representative, genuine, and important for the conversation.

It is much more nuanced. Take away the hype train of Rolex and they are still an incredible if not the most incredible watch brand.

Yes, the watch world without Rolex would be a sad world indeed.

And I would not say Omega is an underdog really.

Nor would I. If Rolex isn't looking over its shoulder, it should be. Omega has really upped its game in the past decade and Rolex isn't exactly wowing us of late with its technical innovation and styling.

Rolex - respected
Omega - respected

Both companies make good products and have fans as well as detractors.
