Yes, but which one and how do you know what model you have bought? The point about the icroscope is that it is high quality and particularly easy to use.

While mine was lost somewhere in my apartment for a shortish while I bought a cheap alternative in some Below Five store. The results were awful! Far worse than moving further away with a high-megapixel smartphone and cropping.

[I did get the impression that it was quite difficult to place it squarely on the lens -and keep it there]

Canon 6D + Canon 50mm F1.8 prime lens with a 12.5mm Canon macro ring - if I remember the size right.
Before I used cheap Chinese macro rings, but had AF contact issues, so I went for genuine Canon eventually, which is perfect.
The full frame camera would probably deserve a better lens, but to be honest, I'm just very happy with the results, not mentioning the price.

I'd like to start taking videos of watches soon, though, that'll surely call for a new lens with a deeper depth of field. That is, so the watch head is always sharp, when rotates on a stand. Not sure though what to get, neither the 50mm macro nor the 100mm macro have deep enough depth of field, might rent each for a weekend and find out...

I just bought a Sony a6400 mirrorless for my business so I'll be relying on it for watch photography as well. Comes with a 16-50mm lens. I'll probably end up getting a macro lens. I'm also due for a new phone, so depending on the shot might be using a Pixel 3.

Apologies for my ignorance. What is a mirrorless camera and what are the benefits?

The name "mirrorless" came about after the development of cameras based on the standard single lens reflex cameras. The SLR has a mirror at 45º to the focal plane and reflected the image into the viewfinder via a prism.

By removing the mirror, the mechanism is simplified, the body more compact and the image is viewed on a screen on the back or through a digital viewfinder.
Most point and shoot cameras are mirrorless, but the term has generally been applied to cameras of equivalent capability to their SLR brothers.

While there may be benefits, in my case it's the ability to shoot silently, thus avoiding the clack of the mirror which can startle birds/animals if you try to snap them.

Do you still need a lense?

Yes. Mirrorless is also known as 'interchangeable lens' (ILC) or 'mirrorless interchangeable lens' (MILC). They look like a DSLR, but generally smaller and lighter. The most common(?) implementation is the micro four-thirds from Olympus & Panasonic, but there are others including Sony and Nikon.

Can't almost believe how small ( & versatile ) my latest Canon camera turned out to be... a tiny mirrorless EOS M50

Just to update I bought an Olloclip for my iPhone 7 on eBay to take macro focus picture. Once I tried the clip broke and the macro focus lense is more blur than a normal picture. I am not sure whether there is a problem with the lense I was sold. I wrote to the seller let’s see

I just bought an Olloclip on Gumtree. Quick tryout with mixed results. Found I need to rest the phone on a pile of dvd boxes to get the focus to come right. These were taken with the 10x lens

Very poor really, but will persevere

I'm always trying to get better pics averytime. I'm not a photofan but i like so much take pics of my watches.
I use my S9+ and a selfmade lightbox. imho, if you have the good light, its more easily to get a nice shot.

I've tryied many mirrorless but i didn't find the right way to have better pics than my phone ( my photography skills sucks ) and i didn't find some good add-on lenses to improve results

When using the Olloclip, it's essential to have good light and a very stable base for the phone. I use a jury rigged old phone holder and place the object on something to bring it into focus (wood block, small box etc). I also cut the ear buds of an Apple headset and use the volume control as a "wired remote" shutter release.

That happened to me too, but I solved it by getting the watch really, really close to the lense.

Interesting. I used took my pictures with my phone, but since I got the Olympus OM-D E-M10 MKII the photography just stepped into a whole other level.

I managed to get the macro picture but I needed to get really close to the watch. I will share a pic later as the guy has sent me a broken clip which I need to fix !

Picture from the macro lense which you need to get very near and thus allow to macro focus only a tiny area.
