The 1 is fine (and all you’ll need if the Audiolab amp has a phono stage). The turntable comes with a cartridge (which should be fitted by the retailer), so the main difference between the 1 and 2 is the tonearm (slightly better on the 2) and the platter (1 has a resin/plastic platter while the 2 has the classic glass platter).

I started with a 2 then upgraded to a 3 (in lime green!) a year or so later, but that was many moons ago when the 1 wasn’t around.
