What do you think about this Tri compax

I edited the listing to say it was an older redo. If being a professional full time watch dealer makes me slime in the same way people assume all lawyers are slime, then sure, ok. I can say that I've had about 5000 transactions, have taken great care of people and am about the least slimy dealer I know (and I know most big dealers from a dozen years professionally in the business and having grown up in it with a watchmaker father). Trolls are the reason I avoid forums.

In defense of this watch I didn't need to disclose what was readily apparent from viewing it. I did now for clarity sake and to make it clear I'm not trying to screw anyone. What I ask and what I'd accept are different; likely I could sell this watch at a very fair price to someone who might have a good dial...it is a spectacular case that is unpolished and unmolested. There is a little bit of porosity around one of the lugs (wasn't welded). There is the beauty of the market: someone is out there who has that dial and needs a home for it. Regardless it is still a hell of a watch as it exists in spite of its dial. Do I wish it was original? Of course I do. But I take each piece as it comes.

And that's it. I'm fair and easy to deal with and no one who has dealt with me has any sort of horror stories. I bend over backwards for my customers and people who have met or dealt directly with me know that. I'm not looking to get into a flame war, and I'm really not looking to change anyone's opinion: if someone doesn't want to deal with me then they won't. But in general there are only two factor's that matter when dealing with watches: what the watch is and what the price is. Get those two things right and most people would deal with anyone.

Thank you, Timetitans, for your response. It's always good to get the dealer in question to speak for him or herself.

All I'll say is that it clearly wasn't evident to your (potential) customers that it's a redial, as we had at least two people on this forum post alone who weren't sure or were having a hard time figuring it out. This is why some of us are of the opinion that it should be explicitly stated in every case. Not everybody has the knowledge that a dealer does. Especially when it comes to Universal Geneve - a brand that a lot of new-comers are flocking to these days.

Anyway, thanks for the response.

In fairness, it's up to you if you like it. I own a redial and i own it because i like it, not because of value, or resale. End of the day i dont care what people of forums think. Watches are individual and should be worn for what they are made for.

Just a thought here, TimeTitans, you could get this dial re-done again in a factory state, there are a few places out there with original plates (US and Italy). i've done the leg work. Would probably command more than the sharpy version 😉

Obviously it's up to the buyer if he/she likes it. The point is that a redialed tri-compax is worth about 1/2 of what an original dialed one is and that is a very important thing to know... It doesn't matter how good a redial is.

This is why it's important for somebody to know this information.

Point taken, and agree, it should be priced well below what an original is. WELL below.

Ive sold many items myself on ebay, for a dealer to NOT state that the dial is refinished when he obviously knows it is in itself deception in my opinion. Trying to find a sucker to pay what an original dial one would sell for lacks integrity in my opinion. I don't think I myself would by a watch from this dealer. Leaving out information is kind of like lying in MY opinion!
