It is a shame to hide such an impressive movement! Just remember to store the original case back safely. :whistling:

As long as you're reading my mind, Great Question!

I just got a nice 321. I have long preferred the "look" of the column-wheel movement to the cam lever 861 (even if the 861 is arguably more accurate and marginally more reliable than a 321).

I have seen some stainless steel watch cases develop a different look (tone?) where a NATO-style nylon strap lies. Since I plan to wear it on such a strap, I think it's a good idea to preserve the original back while being able to admire the movement (without introducing some dirt/fuzz/foreign object into the movement). You can always switch it back (pun intended)...

The Rolex guys that have them seem to love them, even if the movements are less-than-glorious (4130 chrono excluded!) I honestly cannot recall reading anything negative about them. Only positive comments, about the look/quality/fit, etc.

Ok, I convinced myself! How you feelin'? :)

I think I wouldn't dare to open my new FOIS, but just wonder if this saphyre caseback would fit on it.

The backs from Thomas Preik come with appropriate sized spacer rings where needed to hold the movement securely. One would tell Mr Preik which model reference you need a back for when ordering . In the past when there was any issue Preik would make a model specific adjustment and supply the purchaser with a new ring for them to try. This would solve any problems.

Custom Concepts also sells these backs on eBay (may only show up n Euro eBay) and with watching the auctions you can often get a better price.

Just bought two Thomas Preik backs for my Speedies. On a whim I checked the website, created a profile, and found they were on sale and no VAT: $235 USD shipped for the pair. I couldn't refuse!
I'll post a modified incoming when they arrive.

Should I save the old backs?

Put your heart back in its place! I'm just kidding! ;)

I'm going to have one installed on my just-acquired 145.022. It is on the way from Priek - was on sale too!

My Speedy is at the spa, so I will send the case back on for the watchmaker to install and pressure check, etc.

    Great Thread!

Thomas Preik offers two different finishes: polished or brushed. Which one is preferable?

Those old backs are great for the kids to use as small cups for paint .

I prefer brushed. As I was "clicking" my choice, I went to the watch to examine the back of the lugs. Wouldn't you know they were on the "shiny" side!
So I ordered the polished back for both, thinking I can tone down the finish with a Scotch Brite pad if I need to.

Having seen both finishes in person, albeit not on a Speedy, I went with brushed. Will be less shiny when I am admiring the movement!

True, a brushed finish minimizes distractions.
Guess my shiny back will provide more of a "halo" effect (insert Choir of Angels here).

In this case would they be "Clockwork Angels"?
