DIscuss, please. Do we think this watch went back for a service post-1980 and got fitted with replacement movement, dial and bezel?

An 18ct gold Omega Speedmaster Professional 'Apollo XI' limited edition moonlanding automatic

An 18ct gold Omega Speedmaster Professional 'Apollo XI' limited edition moonlanding automatic (???) bracelet watch,c.1969, no. 665, with a replacement movement c.1982. A champagne dial with raised batons, three subsidiary dials including constant seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hour registers, black bezel calibrated for tachymeter scale, fitted lugs and 18ct gold bracelet with deployant clasp. 42mm diameter dial. Case no.145022-69. Movement no.45583258. Calibre 861. 18ct gold Import hallmark London 1969. Swiss assay marks.

It is likely that the dial was also replaced in 1982 when the movement was replaced. We do not know if the bezel is original to the case or also a replacement c1982.

At one point I thought this might be a beaten up BA 345.0802, but the hands are slightly different between the original BA 145.022 and the BA 345.022 and it appeared to have earlier hands, so it maybe stacks up that the movement & dial was indeed replaced. Since the auctioneers have put up photos of the case back and band, it confirms that - how bizarre.

The dial looks very much like a 345.0802 and the serial number is consistent with the 1980 “re-issue”. Given the rarity of the caseback and the finish of clasp it is most likely a ‘69 case, bracelet and hands with a c.1980 dial and 861. Finding a correct 1969 861 is not an issue but the correct dial is another story. An interesting project if you have a ton of patience.

I was trying to figure out why you’d change the movement from an old, original 861 to a newer iteration of the same movement (and probably the dial as well).... then I read that it had significant tarnish to the crown and ‘buttons’. Could this have been caused by someone swimming with it on and damaging the original parts? And therefore are the crown and pushers also replacements?

It would, as stated above, be a cool daily wearer.
