Sorry was at a classic car show all day so otherwise engaged. Yes the leopards head means that is the London '73 hallmark as already noted and as also suggested above, I would infer from the 34m serial that this was a 1972 movement shipped over to the UK and then cased up here by Shackmann, probably for import tax reasons as tax on precious metal imports used to be prohibitive.

I've seen date wheels on ebay several times today, but I think these were for much older automatics. Hope you find a replacement. Thats a real beauty.

Nice watch. Is the dial silver or golden? I think a golden one should be correct for the watch.

Solid gold chronometer for 500pounds and a nice touch of style, grandma would be proud.😀

It is golden, my photos aren't the best due to poor light.

I'm sending it off to STS tomorrow to get the case done, might be unlikely at this point but hoping to have it back for Christmas when I meet the whole family, I think they will love it.

Update, back from STS case refurbishment. So much better and think they did as good a job as possible considering the overly polished condition of the case. I love it and will be happy to wear it Christmas day with the relatives with thoughts of my Grandmother.

Had missed the post the first time around, beautiful watch and "nice" story. At first I was a bit worried it was a plated model but the picture of the back took care of that concern. I didn't remember that Omega had made a 9ct F300. While not as "valuable" as 14k or 18k it's still solid gold and the lighter color is interesting. An 18k Omega would have had an "OM" (Or Massif) dial too. Nice "chunky" design (how wide is it?) that I haven't seen on an 18k F300 either.

STS have done a great job as usual and it looks pretty much like new, heartwarming moments to look forward to during your family reunion!

PS - what strap is that? It seems to have a rubberrized back ?

Thanks, yes it is nice and chunky. Width is 36.5 without crown.

An 18K cased Omega wouldn't necessarily have a solid gold OM dial, I have a couple without this, no OM or sigma marks, no solid dial.

A great job by STS as ever. Not cheap but the value and beauty they put back is priceless, some watches suit a bit of patina, gold watches less so IMO.

I should probably have qualified that as post-1970 (possibly earlier) 18k Omegas, do you have some that fall in that category that don't have an OM dial ?

If thats the original case back I'm guessing they turned it?
I'd just been thinking of a way to do this with my drill press..

A lot of otherwise nice pre-owned watches with screw back cases are marked down because of scratches from not using the right tool to open them. Dressing up the case back is often all they really need.

The restoration is amazing.
Looking at the previous images I saw nothing I'd have thought badly wrong with it, but after being restored you can certainly tell the difference.
That's a fine looking watch.

I was thinking more 50s and 60s ie pre F300, some had OM dials for sure but plenty didn't. My 18k 2852 shark tooth pie pan Connie for instance AFAIK has a steel dial as have many others from the era I mention. I am happy to believe that the 70s ones or F300s were different but it isn't something I had noticed previously and would be a surprise if so, pleasantly so.

Looks great, still intrigued by that strap from the previous pics above ?

@padders - Yeah my statement was a bit broad, sorry. I can't think of an 18k B21/12xx/131x/151x watch without an OM dial though ;-)

Fine, not my area of expertise, though I have had more than a few steel hummers (see left for one such example). That strap looks like a Hirsch Robby or James to me.

Padders was close, it's a Hirsch Paul which lives on one of my other watches.

" I reset the hands so the date now turns over correctly at 12."

I'm glad I looked back over the thread.
I'll be assembling a watch from NOS parts and I'm glad of this reminder that the hands must be mounted in a certain way for the calendar to turn over at the right time.
