What are your thoughts on this as a gift?

I appreciate everyone's input.

She doesn't wear one currently. I think she would be happy with it if it weren't her first watch. The Cluse watch I got off her amazon wishlist. She probably found it on a blog. She's a versatile dresser: sometimes wears pearls, sometimes leather skirts. I'm sure I'll have plenty of chances to buy her watches in time. I'm gonna hold off and wait for another opportunity.

I can't really help you but I just wanted to second that there are ladies who enjoy small non-quartz watches, as e.g. my wife.

But on the other hand, as other members have pointed out: it depends very much on the individual. And be aware of the fact that there's nothing worse than to receive a gift you don't like from your boyfriend - knowing that he expects you to wear the present proudly on a regular basis...

This is why I would make sure she likes the watch before buying it.

But again, you have to watch out:
My wife just bought a really small saphette from 1955 and she enjoys taking care of it & wearing it.
Originally I wanted to give it to her as a gift but I wanted to know her opinion on it first. So I showed her the buying offer. She then was so much into the watch that she immediately bought it herself....😁

There are women who loves the idea of surprise regardless how small or cheap the gift can be. As they said, the thought that counts. However, if she hinted you that she likes a watch, it would be better to know what exactly (style and size) she wants, it really depends on her preference.
