What Are Your Objectives for 2024 (Watches)

Reading and replying to @MtV ’s great end of year thread https://omegaforums.net/threads/what-were-your-favorite-acquisitions-in-2023-watches.167212/ got me thinking about my collecting objectives for next year.

I didn’t used to even think about aims and goals in this hobby, but over the last few years I’ve found that if I don’t set myself at least some loose targets, my purchases can be very random and unfocused, resulting in a lot of buying and selling which is distracting.

So, what are your collecting goals for 2024?

Mine:
1. 321 Speedmaster, ideally 105.012.
2. Camaro, 3 register V72 NT.
3. Modern Seiko diver.
4. Another 16030 DateJust. I used to have a blue dial version which I miss. The grey/linen dials are also a possibility.
5. Rolex GMT 16710.
6. 60’s Seamaster(s) with uncommon dials.
7. Most importantly, Condition, condition, condition.

I don’t for a second think I’ll tick all these boxes but if I manage half of them in 2024 I’ll be very happy.

I second the feeling about setting some loose targets. There's too many watches I like and it's not productive buying randomly. For 2024 I have my eyes on two watches which I've really been craving:

1. 18k c-case Constellation, possibly a 168.027.
2. 18k pie-pan Constellation.

I'm sure I'll end up with more purchases than that, but want to at least have some focus. 2024 will also see me selling some of my pieces to make space for new entries.

As usual, no more money for watches, just for wrist watch & clock reference books 📖

One watch that i really would love to own is the JLC Tribute to Deep Sea Alarm for the US market. I almost pulled the trigger few weeks ago, as one was offered in full set and great condition in Germany under 12k. By the time i raised the funds the price dropped further and the watch was sold 😒
Unfortunatelly those are rarely offered in the EU at a reasonable price. So lets see what year 2024 brings.

It's been a few years since I purchased a watch. I did buy a Seamaster pro, but wasn't keen on the color so ended up selling it. Now in my collection the most recent purchase was in 2018. As I write this, I now recall I bought a MoonSwatch a few months ago. On 2024, no plans to buy. And will focus on getting a few watches serviced. I'm enjoying my current collection, and at this point I have too many watches and not enough wrists.

I can definitely see the appeal. If money was no object I’d have one of these. One of the best reissues out there

I'm happy with how my pocketwatch collection is coming. What I'm not happy with is the number of wrist watches I own, I now have twelve that see regular service, so I need to cull the herd a bit this upcoming year.

I doubt I'll buy any new watches in 2024, but I have a couple of pocketwstch projects I'll finish.

After my latest purchase it will take a while until the next one but the general list:

1. Top condition, solid gold, bumper automatic - e.g. like the Constellation Deluxe that @hockey sold recently or a Ref. 2500 Centenary
2. for my wife: solid gold ladies seamaster sparkle 566.013 in top condition (@dsio wrote about these here https://stories.omegaforums.net/the-ladies-seamaster-566-033-automatic-cal-681-684/)
3. long-term goal: Top condition 1993 birthyear Speedy 3590.50
4. distant future: JLC Atmos

I really do not need any more Watch's which probably also applies to 99.999% of this forums membership. In 2023 I swore I would sell before I bought but then convinced myself the market was better for buying than selling.

Sell: Rolex YM 37 rose gold - Dodane 23 chronoflyback - Breitling Transocean - Various model Seiko Turtle (Prospex) - Blue dial Speedy 57.

Buy: ST1 or 2 - PP Aquanaut - C cased connie - something I will regret - something stupid.

This year I bought 20+ cheaper watches. This year, I'm going to try and be patient. I'm hoping to grab some combo of:

1. Seiko 6105-8110
2. Omega MK40
3. Sinn EZM 1.1 or 140/2
4. Get on with a few repairs

Well i am also in no position to just purchase, some pieces will have to go. This year i realised how much more expensive live has got. Therefore this year my focus shifted towards more affordable vintage Certina.
The reason i hope to buy this JLC in 2024 as the market for expensive watches has had an impact and continues to soften and maybe i am lucky and manage to find one at a reasonable price. For a few years i have considered it in my head as an "exit watch", but probably because the price was way too high.

I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on the new Tag Heuer Skipper in the coming year.

I’d quite like to try one on (in fact any of the modern Carreras. I just cant imagine the proportions would agree with me. Maybe I shouldn’t try it on actually, in case I do like it!

After a fun 2023 acquiring several new pieces, 2024 will likely see the bulk of my funds going to CLA’s for 3 or 4 watches, chasing strap and bracelet perfection, expanding my watch book library and getting some basic maintenance tools and supplies

My plan for 2024:

1. A GMT Watch: any brand with ceramic bezel, except for Tudor because of its snowflake hands.
2. PO Skyfall.
3. A Bond watch, either on film or limited edition with Calibre 2507.
4. Trying a dress watch.
5. Trying Speedmaster.
6. …

This is easier than picking a few faves of 2023 as it was a massive acquisition year for me.

1. Nick Hacko MKII Orange dial
2. Longines Bronze/Green dial diver
3. Wise 24k gold dial
4. RZE Resolute Pro Yellow dial
5. Thinking about trying to sell something ... ANYthing ... but who am I kidding, I don't buy 20 black divers so I don't have many duplicates. Even my seamasters are all different, hell even the 3 165.002s I have are all different enough to warrant being keepers. (slate dial, red crosshair, and slate companion)
6. Try not to buy every kickstarter and microbrand release each month

Stretch goal: That sweet NOS, Rose gold B&M Chrono from @seekingseaquest lol

Put this on the list if it isn't already on it,
