To be clear - these aren’t “healthy”, in the sense that whilst they have great protein, vitamin and mineral content, they are heavily processed and high in saturated fat and salt. That said they are delicious, good for the planet, and so close to meat that meat producers were worried enough to persuade Texas to introduce legislation banning them from being advertised as “meat”. They have certainly found a place in our family’s diet - we’ll always buy high quality steak as a treat and free range meat for Sunday roasts, but honestly, I don’t think we’ll buy traditional burgers again.
