I know folks poopooing date windows.
But my eyesight is no good.
So I’m good with this German beauty.

@Spruce perhaps my compromise 2-I-can-get-through-any-day with is ok:

1963 Rolex Air-King Super Precision w/spear hour-markers
2006 Omega 2551.80 Seamaster Professional Chronometer mid-size

*Pics added 😀

Not great shots, especially of the A-K, but those are the two I could end up left with and still be pretty happy.

Have you ever experienced this irrationality? You see a watch offered for sale, it’s not a grail, but you’d like to have it anyway. You make an inquiry as to availability, you’re kind of hoping it’s available, kinda hoping it’s not?
3-days ago. I'll post pics when it arrives. ::rimshot::

That is a classic beauty. Here is mine
These are the only Rolex I've owned because they dress down well on a strap, and with the smooth bezel they fly under the radar. Same for old Tudors.

What are we looking for. For me, I like collecting practical things that have a history. I like to wear my rail road pocket watches and keep them keeping good time. I like using my sixty year old Mac ratchet when I'm tuning up a car. I like taking out a 104 year old Colt and punching holes in paper.

A collection is one thing.

Collecting is another.

Don’t you have to have been collecting, to have a collection?

Of course. But once you have the collection, you can stop or at least slow down, right?

But that’s the point: for many collectors, it’s a dynamic process - one is never finished.

I've collected a bunch of things yet I hate to think of myself as a collector. Owned four Land Cruisers- wish I still had one. I still own maybe eight vintage stereos (thank god I don't collect vinyl...) I have probably 15 bikes. Bamboo fly rods, fly reels, yup. Knives- maybe 100 or so. Books. Art. Contemporary ceramics. And twenty watches. The urge comes and goes. With the stereos, it was a desire to buy what I couldn't afford as a kid. There's a romance to so many things... In honesty, I also think it sometimes has to do with how happy I am. With a former girlfriend, I was on the watch forums all the time and spent a lot of money. Now, not so much. And I'm pretty satisfied with the watches I do own. Another thing I realized is that a more expensive watch doesn't provide more happiness. I'm as happy with my Speedmaster as I am my Bulova Lunar. They're different, that's all. I'd like to get down to a half dozen or so, maybe buy an Omega 300 and an Explorer 2, keep some of the others. but there's no rush these days.

I think it's either this, or it's a Seamaster or Aqua Terra with an 89xx-series GMT movement (neither of which exist yet, but have been part of the 2020 release rumor mill). Definitely feeling the urge to consolidate and chill, but not without a bang.

Bamboo fly rods, huh? They've been my main vice for 50 years. Now, if I had put my money in Omegas in the time frame instead of bamboo, I'd be far ahead financially. But that's not what's compelling for me.

The attraction to good bamboo is the same as to Omegas: they're both practical tools, beautifully made, and very satisfying to use. That's all it takes for me.

Hmm, I thought I was done collecting years ago.... wrong. Here's my "Yeah I'm Good Watch", except it wasn't. I've slowed down as prices have gone up. I rarely sell my watches, but this hobby is like a candy shoppe, just when you think you are done there is another piece of candy.
My wife, and I'm sure many of your wives too, thinks..."How many watches do you need, isn't one enough?" I can't tell you how creative I've become over the years when I try to explain the existence of another watch she notices on my desk or wrist. The old standard, "I bought this before we were married.", has been wearing thin after 30 some odd years of wedded bliss. So, yeah, I'm nuts and a little bit crazy, just like many of you. Maybe we can all sign up for group therapy. I remember reading an article about watch collecting years ago, it was appropriately titled..."My Descent Into Hell". I will post article on this forum, if you wish to read.

So, it never ends...hey that Omega 2998-2 is looking good.

I’d say it’s all about the chase and balancing your budget with realistic targets.

Is that 6B/159 a stainless steel 1942 one ?
Sure looks like it. I had the same thought when I saw the picture. It’s very nice too.

Unfortunately, I'm new to the game so I keep finding new and different watches that I can't do without. For years I craved a Moon Watch and when I finally got one, I was done. Then I started spending time going down internet rabbit holes and now the list of watches that I want is largely made up of pieces that I didn't even know existed three years ago.

I know it is possible to buy the last something or other, because I did that with guns a while back. I have almost everything I ever wanted and nothing out there got my juices flowing any more. So, maybe I'll reach that point with watches one day, but it won't be any day soon.
