What are we really searching for?

Whatever it is, finding it in watches in unlikely, unless you’re being really being honest with yourself and asking the harder questions.

I think your “yeah, I’m good” mantra is a great practice whether the collection is expanding or contracting.

Nonetheless, have you ever had that fleeting feeling that maybe you reached your goal, that enough was enough?
I wish more "collectors" felt this way. A recent comment by a particularly knowledgeable individual comes to mind where he bragged about being so connected in the market that he was making it much more difficult for others to buy anything of value other than poor quality examples. I don't object to someone devoting their life to the pursuit of knowledge and becoming a respected expert, but when it creates a barrier to others being able to participate in said hobby (especially if you take pleasure in that) I lose all respect.

I'm hardly a collector. At least I don't see myself as one. It's more like my rotation is slowly growing 😁

Having said that... I particularly enjoy the "doing the research" part. Watching reviews, digging up articles and blogs and learning from people already "in the know".

Have you ever experienced this irrationality? You see a watch offered for sale, it’s not a grail, but you’d like to have it anyway. You make an inquiry as to availability, you’re kind of hoping it’s available, kinda hoping it’s not?
I'm so glad you said this. My most recent slam on the brakes happened when I realised that, within 24 hours of bidding for a particular item, I was willing on the competition to outbid me. And I was so relieved when - at the last moment, mind - they eventually did. Now, that just can't be healthy, can it?

Every watch I buy is a “Yeah. I’m good” watch. Basically because I bought it.

I just buy them to stop all you guys getting your grubby paws on them. That’s it nothing else, I don’t even like watches.

Depends. If you justify it by telling yourself it’s cheaper, less painful and less disruptive than having a girlfriend on the side, or getting a divorce, then the aggravation you’re avoiding, and money you’re saving, opens up a whole word of watch purchasing possibilities with minimal guilt.

Interesting... I'm just a bit worried my watch habit now is my bit of transgression, with all of the expense, all of the guilt, and none of the other, er, benefits... 😵‍💫

I just purchased my “I’m good” watch. Now I just have to go pick it up.

Can’t argue with the classic beauty of a no-date Sub.

Well, each to their own but, since you ask, and from my perspective, the design of the watch suffers from the mismatched hands, the crown protectors, the exaggerated indices and (since I’m not keen on dive watches and don’t think they’re beautiful, classically or otherwise) the bezel.

Still, in the eye of the beholder, and all that ....

Now, this isn’t my watch but this is what I’d call classically beautiful 😀

I would agree. Beauty in watches can take many forms.
