@SpeedyPhill got me thinking after he said to watch for the 50th anniversary of Apollo-soyuz in 2025. That could be really interesting when you think about the Meteorite dial for the 35th anniversary. Any thoughts on what Omega will offer as the next LE? moonlandings: Apollo 14 February 1971 Apollo 15 July 1971 Apollo 16 April 1972 Apollo 17 December 1972
We have: Apollo 8 Apollo 11 Silver Snoopy Award / Apollo 13 Pure speculation but feel it will be Apollo 17 only. How long can Omega continue these anniversary pieces every 5 years? The 50th anniversaries are a huge milestone but beyond... I'm not so sure when a return to the moon is firmly back on the agenda. I suspect Omega wants to continue its future involvement in the space program with NASA, Space X etc. perhaps this could be reason enough for the changes to the text on the leaked draft 3861 hesalite case backs?
Maybe a new Limited Edition for the ISS (International Space Station)? The first part of the current ISS was launched in 1998, so 2023 would be a 25th Anniversary of that launch. .
I'm guessing they'll also still continue updating CK2998 LE lineup. They did one back in 2016, then again in 2018. Sooner or later these straight-lug models (incl FOIS) will get bumped to 3861 too. Or perhaps one day true CK2998 reissue will take over the current 'Ed White' as their modern 321 model to offer. For Apollo anniversaries I hope they'll put constraints on the 5-yearly models past these 50ths.
The Apollo Soyouz 35th is a looker. If they can do an as beautiful 50th I will be in. An Apollo 17 50th is certainly to be expected. Will these be based on the expected new speedy internals and design?
ST3 is a foregone conclusion. They were already committed to release a trilogy of Speedy Tuesday. I asked RJ same question on one of the thread here but he didn't care to respond either way. ST3 will be there soon....
There are now! They could sell 2,021 ST3 watches in ten seconds. They must be thinking about it. Too tempting. Me, that Apollo-soyuz 50th has got me dreaming. How do they outdo a Meteorite dial? Gotta be something really special. The ISS editions are really interesting too. That hadn't occurred to me. It would have to be an X-33 ISS limited edition. That would be a great rumor.
2023 = 25 years Omega Speedmaster X-33 used in spaceflight ( January 1998 STS-89 Endeavour took X-33s up to the Russian "Mir" space station and these were presented as the "Mars watch" X-33 generation 1 during a LIVE TV press conference on March 25, 1998 by cosmonauts Nikolai Budarin and Talgat Musabayev ) 2025 = 50 years Omega Speedmaster Apollo-Soyuz Test Project If the Italians could bring out an amazing Apollo-Soyuz Speedmaster in 1976, I guess Omega can learn about this for the 50th anniversary !!! On the other side, I can hardly believe all the mistakes Omega has made about spaceflight, from photoshopping images over using the wrong photos to point out certain missions to the amazing fact they didn't get the moment of the Apollo 11 landing correct on the little plaque in their "Buzz Butt" Speedmaster box !
