Does the use of these acronyms relate to text messaging wherein the maximum number of characters is 160? I too am lost with about 75% of these cryptic non-words. Almost as bad as trying to decipher personalized license plates!

Hey, I'm as lost as some here when my wife and her colleagues in the medical field start talking in acronyms. It's just the way things are going - each area has their own language.

Let me know your thoughts on this. I'll get things rolling:

OEM: Original equipment manufacturer. Essentially, this means the the item is produced by the original company.

For example, an OEM Omega bezel was produced by Omega, not a different company.

OEM is not specific to a forum. It's a pretty widely used acronym - cars, bikes, camera equipment...

I know! I just wanted my example to be for an OEM watch part. But yes, OEM is a popular one on most forums.

OEM+

I've seen this widely used in the VW tuning world for years, means you add parts from other models in the family, to modify what you have.

Fitting Porsche 944 metal door handles to MK2 golfs.... or TT 225 engines to... anything from the 1980's with a VW/Audi badge.

I guess in the watch world, this could be switching hands/bezels/bracelets?

Thanks man, I've been trying really hard but haven't figured out a formula that sticks. If you ever feel like sharing the secret sauce, let me know. 馃槈

YGBSM = You've Gotta Be Shittin' Me

From the Urban Dictionary...

"During the Viet Nam war, US pilots were getting shot down because of surface to air missile SAM sites. In an effort to counter-act the losses, the USAF came up with a tactic called the hunter-killer team concept. This tactic required a pilot, the hunter, to fly low over an area of suspected SAM sites in order for the sites to start shooting. Once the SAMs started shooting, pilots in follow-on aircraft, the killers, dropped bombs and fired missiles to disable the SAM site. When told of the new tactic at a pre-brief, one pilot was reported to respond, "You've gotta be shittin' me!" The term is associated with Wild Weasel pilots who flew F-105s, F-4Gs, and currently F-16s.
Currently, the term is used as an exclamation of shock or disbelief."

Note: I fly with quite a few former USAF F-4 drivers at Delta...some of whom flew the F-4 Wild Weasel in the Gulf...so I'll often see the patch (or sticker) depicted below on either a carry bag or roller board at work...good times! 馃憤

Just add this to the long list of reasons why Delta is my only airline choice. Although... I heard you can't beat United.
