I am not familiar with "social media speak" type abbreviations, invented as sort of message board shorthand! How about a glossary of these abbreviations so that Neanderthals like me know what people are saying. Terms such as the following used on the OMB (Omega message board).

    FSOT- (For sale to Trade?)

    OHPF- (On hold pending funds?)

    WIS- (Watch idiot savants?)

    WTT- (Want to trade?)

    NIB- (New in box?)

WTF- (THAT one I know for sure!)

FS- (Means For Sale, or could mean Full Set?)

POS- (Point of sale, or there is possibly another meaning!)

    WTB- (Want to buy.)

BLNR- (I believe means Black and Blue Rolex ceramic bezels? Correct me if I'm wrong, please!)

There are others, but the above come to mind immediately. Any others? Anyone?

POS - I have heard this used elsewhere for "piece of s***", I guess clearly not the intended use on OF

I KNEW that other alternate use for POS. Etiquette as used on other message boards forbids the use of such terms, so I chose not to use it here!

I understood purpose of this thread was to clarify acronyms that people might read to avoid confusion. IMO when an acronym is commonly known by many as one thing (even when not 'proper'), it is dangerous for anyone to use the same acronym in place of something else that is lesser known. I have heard 'point of sale' but only used for transactions at retail locations, I doubt many have heard it.

I had no intention of demeaning your post or this thread, which I believe is quite useful and needed.

One I'm not exactly sure on but see often in watch related forums...
GLWS - great looking watch sir?

None watch related, but seen used from time to time and maybe not known by anyone who's primary language is not English

    BTW - by the way
    IMO - in my opinion
IMHO - in my honest/humble opinion
HAGWE - have a great weekend?

GLWS is shorthand for 'good luck with sale'

Don't feel bad about POS, every time I see it, the acronym translation is the same for me.

I might use NFW more often, but that doesn't necessarily make it my favorite. ;)

It basically means ask me how I know, which is used to say don't make the same mistake I did.....for example, don't send cash to that seller in Peru, AMHIK.

I thought someone had established a while back that, in keeping with Dennis's high standards of politeness "NFW" means "nice fine watch"?

Here's one I had a very hard time figuring out: SWMBO, "she who must be obeyed".
I, of course, highly approve of the concept -- and will only let only one person, ie @Mad Dog, get away calling a woman "wife unit".

Er... But what is this now? Is there a meaning that can be aired in public?
