Watched Ticket to Paradise the other day (don’t ask). I’m terrible at watch spotting but pretty sure George Clooney’s watch was an Aqua Terra.

Simon Templar. The Saint. Bulova 23 jewel. Spotted whilst watching in bed, recovering from Covid. Some great old cars in these episodes too.

I spotted this pocket watch in Murdoch Mysteries, which takes place at the turn of the 19th century.

Carried by a Toronto police constable.

We've been rewatching old Columbo episodes lately. I feel like half of them have a watch as some key part of the murder or the evidence.

Last night, Rip Torn broke this "high end swiss watch" to give a false time of death to his murder victim.

I think this is sometimes to keep the watch stopped, because of shot length?

Yip, you're correct. It's a simple way to not break continuity. Most movie or TV scenes are shot over multiple hours/days which requires any time related props to remain static.

I remember clearly watcuing Miami Vice (the Michael Mann movie) and noticing an IWC on Jamie Foxx's wrist. Seems he wore a couple in that movie. Can't find the exact screenshot I remember but there is a behind the scenes image showing it - still want that watch!

Big fan of Columbo myself, you're right watches do play a part quite often - was watching 'A Friend In Deed' (great episode) the other day and had to smile at Columbo walking into Van Cleef & Arpels and baulking at paying $25 for a new strap for his watch. Found this blog which may be of interest - https://frankcolumboswristwatch-blog.tumblr.com/?amp_see_more=1

Lol, that's an awesomely specific Tumblr. I just want to drive up the local Rolex AD in Columbo's car and ask questions about watches they way he does about murders. "Boy, wow, that's quite a watch. My wife's a big fan. It can go underwater you say? First waterproof watch you say? Wow, that's some real brand heritage right there.... The Oyster you call it? Well, but see there's just this one thing, you know about the Omega Marine released in 1932?... Well that's the first commercially available dive watch, you see. And then there's the Zodiac divers from 1953... "

I've always wondered what Adrian Carsini wore in 'Any Old Port In A Storm' but alas that blog doesnt have an entry - first class performance from Donald Pleasance as an obsessed wine connoisseur - "Is there anything wrong!!? EVERYTHING is wrong!! An exciting meal has been ruined by the presence of this...LIQUID FILTH." Lol - great episode.

This Wittnauer gridiron pocket stopwatch in Murdoch Mysteries, probably 1898 or 1899. Wondering if this is period correct, or a temporal anachronism.
