Watches with Dail Flaws

Hello everyone

I’ve posted this photo elsewhere on here, so apologies if you’ve already seen it, but I’m curious to know - how many of us own watches with flaws on the dial? Or elsewhere eg. engraving? Does the flaw make the watch more special or does it drive you nuts? (And no, bad redials don’t count.)

Here’s my reason for asking. I wont bore you with the backstory but I recently got hold of this factory-fresh 3861 Sapphire Speedmaster…

I’ve read your story in the other thread and I would be returning that. A missing minute mark wont make that dial more special or collectible.

I don’t own this watch but considering the topic is a dial with errors, this one fits. It’s a refinished dial and has many flaws but there is one that should have been far more noticeable to whoever refinished it. The seller of this watch is trying to capitalize on the error and writes in the description “This error makes this dial very unique and Special and one of a kind.” Which, is an absolute joke.

Aside from the "40" being in the wrong orientation...what else?
EDIT: well I just found another lol

How would a mistake like this even happen? The pad must have been wrongly made which means all dials restamped will have the same error. Weird. However, in our odd world if this was a ROLEX dial with that error it would immediately double or triple in value.

That's not the error, look at '10' and '11' on the hour counter dial.

Hah I just noticed that!
But still...I thought the 40 was supposed to be "upside down" like the 20 on the right subdial.

One has to be the Picasso of the redialing in order to get away with this.

Only Raynald can answer that… I swear they made it for me especially as a wind-up… customer from hell, me.

You’ll find a lot of errors especially the longer you stare at it. Below is an original and you’ll see there are no serifs to be found, the font is all wrong, no concentric circles, the minute/hour indicators are solid when they should be… it’s wrong in so many levels.

And the very poorly refinished dial
