Gotcha. Here's my latest addition to the collection.

Oh man that's my grail! I need to see if Santa can whip one up for me last minute.

I bet that chain makes an annoying sound in the watch winder

Just curious, does anyone make a portable Watch Winder you can take in your luggage on vacation with you?

Hopefully one that is powered by manually winding it up every day.

😲 😀

Yes it's the companion to the Travel Clock and called the "Travel Winder" 😁

Cool idea, let me know if you find one. When I'm on vacation I typically just tie a long string to my watch and swing it around over my head like a helicopter. 100% success so far.

Personally, I find watch winders to be quite an efficient use of space. As others have already mentioned, they are a great place to display your timepieces, and they also have other functions, like being attached to your arms, and having opposable thumbs for grabbing things.

My apologies, OF, I've just done another search for this topic. Before posting the OP I had a look but didn't look hard enough.

Mods - feel free to delete this thread.

My watchmaker asked me if I wanted to buy one like this from him. I didn’t even ask the price I don’t need a setup like that. I guess he had a spare he was trying to unload. I do like the idea of having a watch winder. I just don’t really have anything to justify getting one at this point. If I were ever able to obtain a cool auto moonphase or something with other crazy complications I could see it making sense. I came very close to getting one in a deal for a rado someone was selling. It was a very nice looking rado with a Chrono and he was throwing in a watch winder pretty much for “free” unfortunately the dude was moving from Boston to Iowa and I had 12 hrs to meet him. I was working 3rd shift at the time I texted him at 8am when I left work told him I could meet him at Harvard yard. He replied he sold it the night before. I don’t know why I just told you that long story but it’s one of the “top of my list” missed watch deals.

Is it safe to wear my rolex on vacation?

Good question, and can we really trust those depth ratings?

Just note that this type of winder is test equipment, and not for keeping watches wound as a convenience. Very different to a consumer winder.
I use my Goodwill / Salvation Army found $1.99 watch winders as my test equipment. 😀

My wife keeps her watches in a watch winder, she won't set her own watches and would wear them even if they told the wrong time. It drove me mad so I bought her a winder and I control the times every few days. Good to be the king in my own castle ::facepalm1::

My wife and I recently had the chance to tour a neighbour's house prior to sale. We've always loved his house, it's on our street so wouldn't have to move far, he gave us a chance to buy before realtors got involved. Anyhow, when he toured us through the master bedroom, he had a winder on the center of his dresser that stored his Rolex. I asked him about it, he explained he got the watch for his birthday and he likes to keep it wound for the occasions when he wants to wear it (regularly, but not daily).

He seemed very happy with his winder, and the real estate on his dresser seemed more than adequate...

The OP will change his opinion once hodinkee unveils their $8500 official watch winder for those that couldn't be bothered to indulge themselves into winding and setting watches. 👍

Ouch!!

😀
