The only benefit I can see that they offer is to owners of perpetual calendar watches where resetting is a pain in the butt. Otherwise they are just a waste of money and space.

    Or am I missing something?

    EDIT:
My apologies, OF, I've just done another search for this topic. Before posting the OP I had a look but obviously didn't look hard enough. I see it has come up before, and not long ago either.

Mods - feel free to delete this thread.

Ah the age old debate - I bet you will get 1000 different answers.

In my opinion, watch winders are just fancy watch displays that happen to spin around in circles. I actually find satisfaction in picking up a watch and winding it. Who cares if a watch is inaccurate a few seconds/minutes in a day?

    That’s my view.

The OP will change his opinion once hodinkee unveils their $8500 official watch winder for those that couldn't be bothered to indulge themselves into winding and setting watches.

I wish getting a penny for each thread asking if anything is wrong with a new watch that's a few seconds off a day...

Coming from someone who has never ever made a mistake you damn well better be sorry. How dare you start a thread where we can all chip in and joke around!

This is no place to joke around. We are serious watch collectors. There's no room for frivolity here. If you want frivolity I suggest you follow current affairs.

You can buy those in the sex shop where Rudy Giuliani does his press conferences.

I wind all of my watches - manual or automatic - each day. This is because I prefer to be able to put the watch on in the morning, ready to go. I have never owned a watch winder before.

Then I picked up an old skin diver with one of those Seiko automatics that don't feature hand-winding ability.

Then I picked up a JLC that didn't respond well to manual winding and would stop within 24 hours, but works just fine when wound using the rotor (and a service costs $900 to start!).

I wear all of my watches in rotation, so the JLC and the Dorset skindiver would otherwise stop. Watch winders have their place.

Watch winders are a waste of time. I can't seem to fit them into the safe deposit box. Plus they don't seem to work on my manual watches! :whistling:
