Watch values increasing, are they seen as “good investments” in the current financial turmoil?

I have been watching the value of my modest watch collection increasing (Chrono24) in the past few weeks, do speculators view them as a safe investment?

Compared to the current stocks and shares market they are guilt edged!

Depends on the watch. Comparatively few watches ever appreciate in value, and if they do, it’s usually over a long period of time.

In no way wishing to sound smug, according to Chrono24 (and I certainly appreciate it’s prices are not totally representative) my 2018 Ultraman is now worth 53% more than I paid for it. Would never let it go but it’s one in the eye to the “watches aren’t investments” naysayers brigade. Maybe some (but not all) watches might be viewed as the new safe havens after all?

With all due respect, like I said, it depends on the watch.

You can't price a watch realistically from the pipe dream asking prices on C24. You are deluding yourself if you try to do so. A better metric is ebay sold prices

Absolutely. An item is only worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it.

Drop one of your Watches and see how stable the "investment" is.

Well, stocks are on sale right now, watch prices haven't dropped yet. 😒
[PLEASE NOTE: this is not investment advice, stocks are quite likely to drop more.]

Is there a record on eBay for sold prices? Also I thought Chrono24 based its estimates on watches sold through their site not listed prices?

Watches with rare exceptions, are NOT investments. If that is why you are in this game, stop. Watches can be bought for a price and sold for a price. Sometimes you come out ahead, sometimes you don't.

If the Chrono24 barometer is looking good then perhaps time to sell your modest collection?

It's not worth 53% more than you paid for it.

Dealers on Chrono24 are asking for 53% more than you paid for it.

It's worth what someone would put in your hand were you to offer it for sale.

Yes, you can use the advanced eBay search feature to find sold items, at least within a recent time window. Unfortunately, it's no longer so easy to find accepted best-offer prices, since watchcount.com doesn't seem to work anymore.

According to the Chrono24 website, they estimate the current market value of your watch based on listings. The information is right there.

I love my watches and have watched prices go up and down, not interested in selling unless I really had to but am interested what people’s views are in the current climate, as I know in normal conditions they are not bought as an investment unless your lucky enough to have rare models

Why is it when someone dares to utter that demonic word “investment” in the same breath as “watch” everybody jumps on their case? I bought an Ultraman; it’s turned out to be a “safe investment.” I won’t be selling it to anyone.
