What are you talking about? That islanders bottle opener/pocket watch is a hot commodity.
Ya and the bezel is in good shape I probably should have picked it up.

Very cool! Make sure they are UV resistant otherwise damaging to the eyes. My old B&L's are useless and fit for looking at only!

That is a shame, because those old B&L lenses are way better than anything Luxottica makes today.

Honestly, what would you do with it. There are like 3 Islander fans in total and doubt any of them collect watches so you would have been stuck with it.

My ‘73 Chevy Biscayne had the same upholstery.

Oh this outfit of his was fairly mild today. Usually he is much more elegantly dressed! Oh and if anyone is interested in art, his naked men paintings are for sale 😁

Anyways aside from the oddball characters at the chelsea antique markets there was some interesting watches spotted. This Favre Leuba chronograph was way cool and only needs a new crystal to be in top condition.

This Movado is some kind of solid gold single button flyback jobbie and in nice shape as well.

The Russian watch dealers usually have an assortment of cool stuff but the trick is to hit them first and early as once they start drinking it's near impossible to keep them focused on conducting business. By afternoon they just don't care 😁

Gotta say I miss nyc. We used to go to queens every weekend, or Chinatown in Manhattan or the village or soho. Got my wife her diamond in the diamond district. Saw some of the best blues bands around the village. Never have I been to the Chelsea market. Perhaps before the weather gets foul I can get there at least once.

Anytime you're ready let's go. There's always something good there to buy if one arrives early. I was there today at 6:30 am.

Very cool Favre Leuba. Out of interest what was the asking price?

He wanted $1800 for it. The Movado was just north of $3000. Too rich for my blood.

I would be inclined to agree with you on that....

That is a very interesting movado. I really like that era of movados. They really have a nice design. They pop up at reasonable prices but are gone quick. I understand the price on that particular one would be higher if it is a solid gold case (which wouldn’t interest me anyway) but 3k seems a bit beyond the pale for what I see floating around from time to time

Spent the morning at the Chelsea flea today. The Favre Leuba chrono was down to $1,000 but still way too high. The Russian dealers were already busy having vodka shots but one of them let me have this cute Wittnauer all stainless for $120. Looks good on a nice strap. I’ll be back in the next few weeks.

Yep I think that watch was Vadim's? Big display setup with a bunch of large glass topped cases and an older Russian lady sitting to the right? Nice guy from Staten Island and has loads of watches every week. Alan has the Favre Leuba and Movado and is also a busy dealer but quirky and have to catch him at the right moment. Vadim is easier to haggle with BEFORE the shots start flowing. 😁

Yes, I got it from him. Nice guy! Last time I was there I was browsing his displays when he noticed I was interested in Swiss watches. He pulled out a very nice 40s or 50's Jaeger Lecoultre from his pocket. A decent sized dress watch, all stainless with fancy lugs and a beautifully clean dial. He said he just got it and wanted $400. I tried haggling it down to $350 and eventually said I didn't have the cash with me anyway and would come back later to get it. I thought about it for 20mn, got the money and returned. He had sold it to a lady that was standing right next to me when I first looked at it, just after I left. She offered him $450 on the spot. It's definitely a good hunting ground but as you mentioned earlier— you need to have cash in hand and be ready to act quickly!

Found several of these Eterna dials. Now I just need to find a couple of the clamshell tanks they belong in.

Lots of interesting watches yesterday at Chelsea Flea markets and shops, and here's a couple of beauties George at Tempvs Fvgit had just serviced by Julio. The Seiko was about as close to NOS as I've ever seen.
