Finally got the Tudor off - '64 Rolex Explorer 1016 gilt underline dial, purchased new in 1965 from the NAAFI....undoubtedly the gem in my collection! There is a name engraved on the back and from my research the guy who originally bought it back then was in the TA...

My friend watchistry on IG made a video of Type 20,21,22 and some of my watches got highlighted. Thought I will share with military watch friends.

I'm on the look out for a vintage military watch.

As a general rule, the lume on the hands should match the lume on the dial, right?

Not always. Lume can age differently dial-hands and it wasn’t uncommon for hands to be replaced with like hands during a field service if the lume has fallen out. I’m not sure how that would affect the value on some vintage mil pieces, but the US pieces I tend to collect it’s not a deterrent if they are the correct style. The above Bulova Ord has original minute and hour hands, but the second hand had gone dark. I replaced that with a NOS mil issue hand that was still in the package and the lume color was an exact match (although the blueing on that hand is insane and the other hands are dark).

Not always as things can age differently. Also a ton of franken watches in the military space where parts have been replaced, etc. This is especially true on older watches. Also a surprising amount of fakes out there for military watches.

Great idea..I'm inspired!
Here's my favourite, A Glashütte Tutima Urofa 59 Flieger chroronograh from 1941. An amazingly beautiful, tough as nails flyback chrono that keeps COSC time. This is a pure tool watch. 39 mm for great legibility, pushers and crown are ergonimically designed for in-flight functionality and the radium hands and markers still have life in them!

The 17 jewel guilded movement with balance shock absorber is a marvel.

I've stopped collecting military watches for the simple reason that military watches demand a very high degree of dedication for which my schedule won't allow. Nevertheless, I snatch one up once in a while.

Cheers,
Wow, what a great piece! You’re a lucky guy. I love Tutima, my daily driver is a Tutima Flieger Automatic which has the look but is nothing compared to an original 59 chrono. Thanks for showing.

Helvetia DIH, purported to be used by German Army Intelligence during WWII. I think this one was undercover...
