No, it’s not - at least from what I’ve learned.

I believe it is a British issued watch, but with a later dial and handset, perhaps fitted at a service? I’ve seen the words “MoD dial and syringe handset” used to describe what is on this watch. If anyone knows more, I’d love to hear about it

It does not have the cathedral hands and heavy radium plot dial of some JLC WWW examples I’ve seen.

I am no expert but I thought the Aussie ones had the polished case and a sterile case back (but stamped inner case back), the UK ones having a matt case and fully marked outer case back. It is an MOD replacement dial and hands I think. Lovely watch.

thanks for the link. I just popped over to MWR to read that.

My example appears to have a polished case - it’s clearly not a matte finish. It also has fixed bars, and has a bit of brassing showing on the underside of the lugs. Again, I presume much may have been changed at services made along the way.

I’ve not held this Dial up to a Geiger counter but assume the MOD dial and hands are both tritium. Would tritium lume be consistent with a MoD dial?

regardless of what parts are on it, I still find it appealing to wear in rotation.

Hi Flatfoot, I suspect, although not sure, that you have an Aussie WWW midcase with a UK WWW case back and MOD dial and hand replacements with tritium lume. Interestingly, I think that is the correct Aussie crown as the UK one is a little chunkier.
Can I say that I am not saying that anything is suspect here at all and I wouldn't be surprised if that is how the watch came out of an MOD service workshop. The Aussie issued ones are rarer than the UK ones I think. There are folk on MWR with a lot more knowledge than me on these.

I have a few.., wearing my Auricoste Type 20 this morning. French-issued circa 1954 and in service through the mid-80's

Do you know if the FG marking was engraved at a central place when they were serviced? The font seems similar to other watches I've seen.

All services were done in Atelier Péchoin, hence they all have the same markings.
Enjoying my brand new to me Vixa Type 20 for today, FG from 1961 to 1983, 22 years of good and loyal service to the French Air Force

Beautiful example of a Smiths. Is it a W10, 6B or other variation?

^^ Yep, your fondness is understandable. The straps look unworn though!

I'm an absolute sucker of those French Type 20/21

Funny my Vixa ended up on a similar strap, where did you buy yours ?
