Thanks Larry, I already looked at it and it is a good general information. I will try to dig a little bit as I am really interested in the story behind those SAAF lemania.

Nothing military on the wrist as yet.
A small memento of my grandfather, I reckon the thread could stretch to such things ?

Would it be considered bad form to post a pic with an inquiry on this thread abut an Omega WWW pilots watch that I am considering taking the plunge on? There is something troubling me about the dial.

No worries if so - I can start a new thread.

Probably best to post a new thread, picked up by all 👍

B.t.w. nice result against the 'Gers'

This thread is killing me...since I'm still mil watchless...BUT...I do have the opportunity to purchase a Hamilton GCT from the local watchmaker that recently serviced my Hamilton 992s. I'd be able to kill lots of birds with one stone with this GCT...it would be my first mil watch, it's an aviation watch, it's a pocket watch and it's a Hamilton...as well as the fact that the 24 hour dial is big enough for me to easily read with my aging eyes. I know the pics below are poor...but the GCT's dial is immaculate (imho)...BUT the case back is worn through and the base metal is showing. The mil engraving on the case back is still distinct and readable. The movement looks very clean (imho). Price is $500 and that includes a COA on site...and I would want to have a COA done anyway. FYI...he charges $245 for a COA on a pocket watch. I've seen this watch in person and it really looks nice...except for the worn case back...which really doesn't bother me too much since the mil engraving is very readable.

So...what do you think...jump on this or hold off?

NOTE: I'm also chomping at the bit regarding that Bunn Special 60 Hour (with Bunn Special case) in the upper left pictured below...but that's a different story...this freaking hobby is absolutely insane! 😵‍💫

That price isn't bad, but these do occasionally pop up for less on the 'bay - here's a recent example....

You've stumped me on COA (Cerificate of Accuracy perhaps?) but whatever it is, $245 sounds expensive!

Roger that, sir...yeppers...I've seen them on the 'bay...I've even seen them on the 'bay with their original box that has the viewing cut-out for the dial...around $2,000 for GCT and original box...and it's a pretty flipping cool box! 😎 👍 😎 👍 😎

Well, this is not quite Mil Spec, but it is a homage to a military piece, and it is on my wrist this evening...

Does Bill Yao still sell these? Always wanted one. 38mm diameter?

Yep, under the name Hawkinge (in honour of an RAF base from WWII). 38 mm across, WR to 100 m, sapphire crystal, date or no date version. I enjoy wearing mine quite a bit!

There are "tells" as to the manufacture.

Any guesses?

Fat Arrow again to start off Superbowl Sunday. 1st arrival of the new year and still in its honeymoon...

Would like to find a nice original Thin Arrow some time... not many of those left out in the wild. For those of you who are bothered by those small details... please note that the watches are not synchronized. Can't unsee it now, can you? 😜
